Any advice on buying a '95 X300 in Arizona?
 

Hi everyone,
First post here, I'm contemplating buying a '95 XJ6 with 145K on the clock. I know, lots of miles...
Anyhow, what are the top 3 things to look for when going to look and test drive this thing?
OK, top 5 or 6, you get the idea.
Is this too many miles for the model year to consider a good purchase?

I have a 95 with over 100k miles running strong, I also have an older XJ40 with over 200k. The X300 engine is an evolution of the earlierengine and is virtually bullet proof. Aservice record is a good start as regular oil changes are a must, check the oil yourself to see if it's reasonably clean and viscous. Listen to the exhaust manifold as these are prone to cracks which can upset the emission readings. Check it has all the keys with it - refer to the handbook. Check the keyfob/s work ok and the memory positions work on the seats and test all the other electrical equipment and air con. Then just check it as you would any other car, make sure there are no signs of overheating, it should pull smoothly withno smoking on hard accelleration when warm, there should beno undue noises from the steering and suspension and the autobox should change up and down smoothly, check for any clunks moving the lever from drive to reverse and back at idle.The only problems i've encountered have been because of lack of use - flat battery etc which brings on electrical gremlins so if not used regularly a trickle charger is a good idea.
