Was browsing around while researching the transmission filter and sump gasket for the X300 XJR with the 4L80E transmission and recalled how common this transmission is and there were likely several options for extended capacity aluminum sumps with "cooling fins".

Anyone ever fitted one of these generic 4L80E sumps to the XJR 4L80E?


Before someone asks if this is "necessary", I doubt it

I was just surfing around and found various sumps and it got me wondering if any 4L80E sump will fit the 4L80E on the X300 XJR and XJ12.

Unfortunately, Jaguar's 4L80E sump has different shape than the other generic 4l80E sump.
So you won't be able to use them on Jaguar.

Not a big deal though, I was just curious. The stock steel pan on the transmission is pretty deep anyway it seems.

I wonder why Jaguar had the dimensions of their 4l80e transmissions changed. It doesn't seem as if a normal 4l80e would not fit.
