Bad throttle response

I have many time trying to solve a malfunction of my x300 4.0engine tipe 9j 177,1 kw,. the problem start four months ago, the car runs for ten kilometres aproximately, and loss power until it had no power to remain on road, need to roadside the car and the engine hesitate at idle. I have replaced the following parts and not cured the problem, even if has changed the simptoms,
six coils
crank position sensor
temperatura sensor
fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
rochester valve
six remanufactured injectors
spark plugs
fuel filter
now whit that parts changed, the car sometimes runs fine ( specially cold -warm temp), and others canīt rev up to 3000 rpm,and impossible to kick down, and worst when faster depress the pedal
any suggestion would be highly appreciated

OOPS, that is a sick Cat.

My only suggestion is teh TPS, under the throttle body, is contaminated with oily goo from teh throttle shaft.

Sometimes they respond well to a good clean with P/Pack solvent, sometimes not so good.

Replacement is the option if cleaning fails to sort it.

Access from under the car, oil filter removed.

Hi purri,

+1 on Grant's suggestion.

From your description, this sounds like Limp Home Mode, which may limit the engine speed to 3,000 rpm and may lock the transmission in 3rd or 5th gear. A common cause of Limp Home Mode is oil contamination of the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or its electrical connector.

Another suggestion would be to have your car scanned for any stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), which may provide clues as to what is causing the malfunction.

Cheers,

Don

today i take off the TB , It seems like a replacement part , no excesive dirt,on body, but appears some oil into the intake manifold, then, due to gravity, the oil will be in the TPS , the oil came from the vent pipe on the rocker cover , donīt know if there is a blocked pasage in the crankcase ventilation, tomorrow i will clean the TB, we will see the results..
I donīt think about limp mode, the car tends to stall when depress the gas pedal above 2800-3000 rpm, ,other cars donīt cut off the engine, only limit the rpm
I canīt find any shop in my city whit the software for my car, i try several shops, can read dates, but no appear any error codes ( i have connect and disconnect many connectors and changed parts, is impossible not to find error codes, not even a bulb faliure

Throttle Potentiometers seem to bench test fine, even when malfunctioning. I’m not convinced it’s that part though.

crankshaft position sensor is what I’m looking at. I don’t know how to test it.

Hi purri,

While I'm thinking about it, the manual at the link below may help you compare your sensor signals to correct specifications.

Fixed my previous post. I suspect its the crankshaft position sensor.

problem solved! ( in this moment....), before testing sensors, tps, etc , I ever suspect about temp or fuel issues, due the car start to fail always at the same mileage/temperature, I bridge the injectors rail fuel intake whit a hose and fuel pressure gauge and drove the car until start to fail, and "bingo", tha fuel presure decreases when the engine hesitates, more accelerate- lower pressure in the gauge, at first, the pump start to send flow and pressure ok, when has passed a certain amount of fuel ( whit dirt) clog the pump filter and, donīt send the correct amount and pressure of fuel.
I think this issue is due to many time i have the rochester valve inoperative and get into the tank (whooosh sound of suction when open the tank cap) the all the dust deposited in the fuel tank filling hole, come into the tank
many tanks for your help

Thanks for the update, purri!

Your fuel tank and pump filter are definitely filthy! Let us know how it works when you get that all cleaned up!

Don

itīs clean already, i clean it through the pump register, paper towers and scotch brite over and over,( the previous pump change iīve cut a hole in the back tray to acces), today, a 50 kilometers trip and the car runs very fine, whit any issue,
