Battery light ON

My 95 XJ6 with 150,000 miles on it starts up perfect every time. The amp gauge reads between about 14.2 and 14.8 amps all the time. The battery has been checked at a good parts store. BUT, the battery light on the instrument cluster comes on and stays on while running all the time. The car runs greats and we can not find anything wrong. There is no check engine light on.

Has anyone had a similar problem like this??

Thanks guys

My R did that, and after waaaaaay too many tests and beers, I removed the bulb, problem solved. 4 years now and I DO NOT miss it at all, the bulb that is.

My other one, a 3.2ltr XJ6 Poverty Pack, did the same, Hitachi alternator, simple enough, so had it rebuilt, still the same, and eventually we put the "Jag/Hitachi" regulator pack back in it, new brushes filed to fit, and all GOOD, so all we could establish was that the replacement Reg Pack simply is not Jag friendly.

The 3.2 alternator was simple to remove/replace, the R, NO WAY, hence the OZ fix.

The voltage regulator is a IN435 , easy to replace and is available from Ebay sellers

The only problem in ordering the IN435 from 2 different vendors they would send me the wrong IN221 ones and they would fail in many more ways then my original during bench spin up machine test at the auto parts store

Got one from a salvage yard and problem solved

The instrument gauge should be reading voltage and your reading if with hand held meter is high and probably the reason for the light

Before ordering up a reg see if the terminal screw between the reg and brushes is seized up in which case you may have to order a brush assembly also

Thanks guys. Good info and looks like it may be the regulator. But since it is still not causing a problem other wise I might use the Final Solution (section of black electrical tape carefully placed over the light). We'll see.

Thanks again.

cooking the battery ?

You may have run across this on aircraft as thermo runaway

Saw a Learjet once that had a hole melted through the fuselage

Battery and alternator are presently functioning just fine. I think it is probably some interment alternator out put due to old age. With this many miles on the car I have decided to replace the alternator with a new one that has built in regulation. '

Thanks guys for your help. I will keep you posted.

I would ask around about a new alternator source

Some cheap ones came on the market and are not reliable

96X300 just replaced his so you might ask him his brand

I would recommend taking it to a auto parts store and have then spin it up to test on the machine before installation

Battery light suddenly decided to turn it self off like a good little light. Didn't do a darn thing. Not even the final solution.
