Can I put my v8 Chevy engine in my 1995 x300?
I have a 1992 Chevy capprice classic wagon with only 110k on it. Was going to sell the Wagon but this light bulbed in my head.
Nothing wrong with my Jag. So I would keep it.
Anyone know if possible and what adjustments would be needed? Work with OEM X300 tranny or would I have to use the tranny from the Chevy?
Thank you

Ditto this. Lumping Jaguars has been done a million times. There are companies out there that sell kits to do it.
My question is why? This is usually done for one of two reasons. Either the original Jaguar engine packs it in, and it would cost more than the car is worth to rebuild the Jag mill, or you want more horsepower.
If your Jag engine is running great don't fix what ain't broke. If you are wanting more power, most Caprices of that era had a 4.3 or 5.0 that probably made 200 horsepower on a good day, so unless you're planning on a high-performance rebuild, you wouldn't any improvement in performance. There would be better Chevy engines to start with for a performance build.

This will be Un popular with some and I am in no way beating up on you BUT I enjoy Jaguars for being Jaguars, yes they put a GM t/h 400, GM p/s pump and A/c compressor in my XJS but they did put a marvelous dual overhead cam engine in my XJ6L and a magnificent V-12 in my XJS, why anyone would want a run of the mill, antiquated push rod V-8 in one is beyond me. Popular thought with some and Un popular with others. In the end it always comes down to your car, your choice. I just wish this forum would start a "Lumps" section so these thoughts and ideas could be discussed/shared with like minded people, it's the way other Jaguar forums are structured, I don't know what the resistance is as this does rear its head from time to time and at times can prove to be a hot button topic. Is lumping a Jaguar an acceptable practice in my opinion, NO, I like Chevys and Fords etc, I just like Jaguars to be Jaguars and in the same vein it floors my people put Chevy V8's in hot rod fords? I mean there are plenty of ford v8's out there too!

Yes Lots Of Fords. I Got An Old One. I Have Been Learning Info On These Cars Since I Got It.
More To The Point. I Have Been Trying To Find A Use For That Engine (5.7 V8) Cause Its In Great Shape And I Just Don't Like The Wagon. I Want To Find A Use For The Engine Or Get My High Asking Price.

I´m open to all views, but as owner of a couple of wannabe old timers (my X300 doesn't qualify yet), for me it is all about keeping them original. If it is a car that has no collector's value, I can conceive making an experiment like that. But the Jag certainly doesn't fit in that category. It is a well balanced gentlemen vehicle and if someone wants more HP, he can get the XJR.
If you are ready for such an undertaking, I can see plenty of other fun alternatives.

Jorge

While I think the X300 is a beautiful car, round these parts, it's just another cheap used car. I see them for sale on Craigslist all the time for less than $5000. And they're pretty worthless if the engine is toast.
Sounds like the OP has a line on an X300 with no motor, and has the 5.7 laying around waiting for the right project.
I say, why not? The X300 will probably go to the crusher otherwise.
I'd rather have one with the sweet DOHC 4 liter 6, but it takes more than an engine to make a Jaguar. There's the sublime suspension tuning, the sexy bodywork, the leather and wood interior, the little chrome cat on the hood...
If you've already got the Chevy engine and gearbox, and you can get the Jag for under a grand or so, go for it!

If it was a Roadmaster Wagon or a Fleetwood Brougham, I'd be PMing you... They are extremely durable and dependable cars, full-framed and can tow up to 7,000 pounds, 26MPG highway, almost 600 miles on a tank for a road trip. Still has the fuel filler behind the license plate, so you can pump from either side...
Good luck with either path you take with the cars.

visegrips and a hammer without referring to the manual. With parts easily found just about
anywhere and costing sane amounts of money.
Here is one site that has Jag conversion parts:
V8 conversion manuals, parts for V8 S10, Datzun Z, Jaguar, Chevy TPI & TBI, Colorado, Astro Van V8, Volvo 200 & 700
there are others.
