My 1997 XJ6L has been in the shop since last Saturday. I took it because it was making a ticking noice. The technician found the problem, a broken valve guide. So the car needed a head job. Talked to the technician today and he told me my car would be ready tomorrow, Wednesday. Im so excited, can't wait to have my car back.

 

Best wishes for a successful job and a healthy, like-new valvetrain! Sometimes I go weeks without the use of one of my cars since I usually do the work myself, bit by bit. I really start to miss the car, but it is a grand feeling to get back on the road once again, with one more repair job completed.

 

Spare-car worth it's weight in Gold (at least Silver!) as it not only gives you a parts-runner, but also gives you the confidence to tackle jobs that span weeks, not just weekends and really takes the pressure off, allowing the DIY'er to proceed calmly and rationally when tackling something he/she has not faced previously....further savings realized b/c since you don't have to bring it back online right-away, you can wait for parts from eBay, Rock, Amazon, etc rather than paying confiscatory rates at the local auto-store.
