Cylinders 1, 2, & 3 not firing.. and NEW paint

Hello friends,

I have ran into another issue with my beautiful x300. Few days after getting it repainted to it's original color (titanium metal) and a day of photoshoots (will come soon), I decided to take a newly built hwy that is never in use. I put the metal to the petal and shortly after reaching 70-80 mph, I felt a sudden loss of power. I pulled over quickly and shortly after the Jag stalled. I opened the hood and saw white smoke coming from the upper cats. I ran my Bluetooth ecu reader and got the following codes, random misfire, cat damage bank 1 and bank 2. I suspected a clogged catalytic converter.

I had a towing company tow the jag to the mechanic for diagnosis. After a day and a half he provided the following information.

Cylinders 1,2, & 3 are not firing. Coils were changed however still no power went to the coils. Spark plugs were changed as he noticed gas in the cylinders. I had to leave shortly after this as I had work. He will continue to review but he suspects the following, wiring, ecu, or fuel injectors.

Does anyone experienced similar situation or have input?

As always your help is appreciated.

Looking at the ignition they all get their power at all times though the 7 wire splice PIS34

This is a paper representation of how it works but may not reflect what is physically there , it may be 3 coil sets then the other 3 coil sets to make the tie point not so fat for space limitation

My splices are in good shape but I have seen others not so

To get the coils to fire they are provided a timed ground by the ECU though individual ground wires

The ECU then must have a ground and there are a couple that may have been disturbed in the painting process

Looking at page 28 you will see them

The important ones are on the engine firewall

Regarding the engine, what diagnostic trouble codes are stored? If you can post all of them here exactly as they appear, we will try to help.

Good to see you have your old account back! Been a while friend! I have sent this information to the mechanic earlier today but have not spoken to him since (due to work). But I hope to speak to him over the phone tomorrow and visit the shop Friday if the problem remains unsolved. So far no update since yesterday.

Thank you very much! She definitely transformed after that, clear coat was almost gone with the exception of a few patches on the hood, cracked paint, and a few dents. Only $1200!

As mentioned above, I will be able to visit the shop on Friday and run my BT OBD reader to provide codes. I will keep you all posted.

I am always interested in coincidences, and wonder whether the fact that this happened on the way home from a repaint is a coincidence or not. It might be worth backtracking to see the extent of any dismantling which took place to allow painting, and to understand whether the car was "baked" in any way as part of the paint curing process. Was there a lot of prep work, and was the car in a very dusty environment for any significant time? Not solutions obviously, but might yield some clues.

Well here is an update and thank goodness after 2 weeks of troubleshooting we found the culprit.

Missing tooth on harmonic balancer (my fault, broke and epoxy when I replaced the front crankshaft seal about a year ago) :icon_slap2:

After replacing fuel injectors with refurbished ones, replacing fuel filter, sparkplugs and other sorts of things I decided to check on the harmonic balancer after my mechanic it wasn't firing correctly.

Ordered one for $300 and should be installed by the end of the week.
