Dead 96 XJR - RESOLVED
Good evening all. I put my 96 XJR into storage about 2 years ago, its been started several times over that period to move it around with no problems, today went to start it to put it back on the road and ..... nothing!!! Cranks over well with a new battery and booster with no joy, quick investigation showed no spark and the plug didn't appear wet though half a tank of fuel, would someone be kind enough to give me a few pointers what to check for??? Many thanks, any help will be gratefully received.

Check if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Turning on the ignition, the fuel pump runs for 2/3 seconds. The second fuel pump on an XJR only kicks in above 3000rpm? You can remove the fuel pump relays and connect across with a short piece of wire fitted with two male spade connectors to check they run. The fuel pumps don't normally fail. What happens is the fuel pipe blows off one of the pumps inside the tank. The outputs from the two pumps are joined together in the tank so hot wiring the high speed pump as a temporary fix doesn't work. There are various threads on here about this and how to get at the pump. The correct way is to remove the tank. The quick way is to remove the rear parcel shelf and cut two cuts in the panel from the speaker hole and fold back the panel to gain access to the hatch in the tank top. I would only carry out this if the car is fitted with a centre seat belt which is a lap belt as on the later cars the centre seat belt is anchored off the parcel shelf panel.

Yes, the CPS is always the prime suspect. Lots of resources on this site on no-start situations. Found this checklist on the web which is a good DIY resource:
