I always wondered if the X300 Grey, Red, Green, etc. centre caps that came factory on the different types of wheels were matched to the car's model, body colour, year, or were just an option for buyer.

 

I think it depended on the model. VDP often had the red/gold, XJR often had the gray/silver but I think I've seen some with the red/silver too, and of course the red/silver and green/silver were around on other models as well.

I have no idea if it was a customer option though.

I played around with some other colors such as red and green for my XJR, but ended up deciding the original gray/silver centers were indeed the best match for my Titanium body color.

I still need to buy a new set when some extra "optional" money comes along as two of mine have tabs broken so they barely stay in, and all four of them are a little discolored from the elements.

Fortunately there is a guy on eBay that sells new sets of four for $69 which while expensive is about $17 a piece which is a deal.
