I finally got mine installed in what is now my wife's X300. It's subtle but the power boost is there. Now to see if I can keep my foot off the throttle enough to realize a mileage boost as well. Fun!

 

Fitted my bracket earlier today. Definitely notice a difference. Installed a new crank sensor with it. Nothing wrong with the sensor. Just decided since they can give problems and got it half way out might as well change it and keep the old one as a spare.

In short: Amazing.

I've had mine on now for a few months now. Coupled with the Home Depot/Autotozone custom intake, I am up from mid 16's in MPG to just about 20 MPG according to the computer. I keep tires at 38 psi. When the computer dips down in MPG I check tire pressure and usually that gets me right back where I need to be.

 

Mine is on order now.... can't wait to wield my spanners!

Mina Gallery is the only one I know of that sells one specific for the x300 but they are over priced for what it is. I would rather buy a k&n universal pod filter and the elbow piping from an autoparts store. Will save you about $60-$70 honestly.

 

I did my own as simply as possible for my X300 3.2
I just removed the air box and put a K&N directly onto the end of the AFM. YEs, it could be directed more forward in behind the lights, but at 50-60 mph I suspect it makes little difference in a 3.2
In a supercharged XJR, with blower heat on the intake side, that could be a different story

I am not sure the oiled K&N actually filters much, apart from large grit and small birds, unless one fastidiously oils it very frequently.

 

Bracket fitted and car fired up again, took twenty minutes.

Being a normally aspirated car, access is very good. The only injury sustained was a small cut on the back of my right hand from a sharp edge on the fan housing....

If only all Jag jobs were this easy!!!

I did notice that my drive belts are looking pretty tired, so they are the next items on the shopping list....

Having taken my 3.2 X300 Executive for a 25 mile test run this afternoon, I can report that I am very pleased with XJRengineer / Andy's modified CPS bracket.

Part throttle response in particular is very much stronger, it feels like my engine has gained a few extra ccs....

The car feels much more leisurely to drive as a result. Just what the 3.2 lump needed....

Fitted Andys bracket today to my 4.0 soverign an what difference it makes it is unbelievable, throttle response in mid range is a lot more noticeable and I think it isn't that fare behind my xk8 convertible 4.0. Definitely the mod to do to any x300 in my opinion thanks again Andy

 

For those of you not getting the relatively dramatic results from the Andy's bracket, mya I suggest checking and possibly replacing your spark plugs. This makes a HUGE difference. I've found the Champion RC12YC (or whatever they are called) work great but only last 5K miles or so. I just replaced mine again and the throttle response, crispnessm etc. are just great.

 

I fitted some new plugs today to hopefully cure an occasional miss at tickover - tried the Champion EON2 (Champion list them for the 3.2) - I will report how they feel re throttle response etc. once I've put a few miles on them.

The old plugs (no idea when they were last replaced) had a brick-red coloured insulator (additives in unleaded I believe) And a couple of my coils have cracks on the casing :-/

 

I've just had another batch of brackets made. This takes the total beyond 400, which I think is quite an impressive milestone, and shows just how popular this modification has become over the last few years.

Humorously, I was replacing my SC belt and pulleys today, and decided to install the "Andy Bracket" I bought last year. But when I took the SC belt tensioner off..... sitting there gleaming was an "Andy Bracket". Someone had already installed one!!

I guess the previous owner took that initiative but didn't mention it when I bought the car Pretty funny.

The crank sensor looks pretty new too, with clean shiny plastic, so I may have gotten a freebie there too. So good news all around.

So I now have an extra bracket I don't need, new in the bag from Andy, never installed.

I'm in the USA, so if any USA owners want one I'll just charge what I paid for it, and shipping in continental USA will be free. I'll print out Andy's instructions as well and put in the package.

Would be nice to have this go to a fellow forum member than eBay.

Regarding fuel economy, I've put a few miles on now and on motorway journeys at (ahem) "cruising speeds" I used to get just over 24mpg, now I can get 27mpg and that includes a bit of "spirited" driving in the mix.
Not a bad improvement.

I'll be getting another of these brackets if I succumb to temptation and get an XJR

 

Hi all, I've just read the entire thread and I'm impressed with all the reviews.

I'm still waiting to get my 96 back from $2k+ of smog related repairs (O2 sensors, cats, air intake bellows, coils blah blah frickin blah).

I'm planning on adding Andy's bracket to hopefully recoup some gas mileage (or satisy my lead-booted tendencies) to make myself feel better

One question for those of us under the watchful gaze of the California smog *****: Has anyone experienced any issue passing smog by diddling the timing like this? Not that it would be a huge deal to swap in the original CPS bracket once every 2 years, just wondering.

Also CA smog related: is there a potential problem passing the visual inspection with an after-market air filter installed?

 

Our X300 just passed smog in northern California with the advance timing bracket installed. I have not noticed an increase in gas mileage and my wife drives it the same as she did before. When I drive it, I'm a bit lead footed, so my time behind the wheel doesn't count when evaluating the mileage.

 

You'll be saying goodbye to 27mpg if you do. But thats not the point of an XJR.
