Received my new bracket from Andy a couple of days ago and fitted it today. Simple process thanks to Andy's very detailed notes. I am definitely no engineer and possess only basic DIY mech. skills, but had no problem with shifting any of the bolts and did the job in about 25 mins. The best tip is to remove the fan assembly though, much easier to see what you're doing and no grazed knuckles. I've only driven round the block to test so far and can't honestly say that I noticed a great difference in throttle response (NA 3.2 Sport). To be fair I need to do more runs over a period to evaluate properly.

I'm keen to get any straight forward gains in performance & economy and someone in this thread mentioned K&N filters. Can anyone elaborate? are we talking air filters?? (remember I'm no engineer!) My stock filters are newish and clean, but can I do better? Any comments appreciated!

I'm glad to read that the bracket installation went smoothly. Please bear in mind that the increase in performance with my bracket will be in proportion to the std performance. The 3.2L engine is the lowest output of the 3 AJ16 engine derivatives (3.2LNA, 4.0L NA na d4.0L SC), so the gain will also be the lowest. Having said that, other 3.2L owners have remarked that the differentce is still noticeable. I look forward to reading your feedback when you have done a few more miles.

Not my proper thread to be on, i have a x350. But, can this be done to a AJ-V8?

 

Have now driven the car much more since fitting Andy's bracket and in a variety of conditions. Although I couldn't feel any discernible difference on my first test run post-fitting, I can now more confidently report improved performance, fairly modest but the car is definitely livelier overall. Haven't measured any improvement in fuel economy yet but I'm happy it's a worthwhile mod. thanks Andy.

I have also just ordered a K&N air filter (ie. replacement element to fit the box, not a cone) and found it on Amazon for about US$43.50, plus $10.50 postage. NOT BAD when compared with local supplier prices and others I've found online, I reckon I'm saving about 45% with this crowd including postage. Admittedly the exchange rate from US$ to AUS$ helps as it's is highly in our favour at present, so Aussie's win both ways. If anyone's interested this is the link:

Good to hear from you. Glad to read that you are still enjoying the ECU that I reporgrammed for you. As you can see, I now post on this forum, as www.XJR6.com seems to have died. Shame, the site was very well supported by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable bunch of owners.

 

I finally figured out how to attach a picture. Is this a fuse? X500 I believe on the ECU circuit board

 

Good to see the advance bracket still going Andy it got me started in chasing more power from these engines and your tune with diff gears has transformed the car
I finally replaced the original fuel pressure regulator and the car is alive the FPG was probably faulty for a couple years that's why I was probably chasing power so much but the way it goes now is not short of amazing in the last 2 years before it was running like this it did 10,00k,s since the ECU and diff and new coils and plugs I have done 10,000 k,s and am thinking of driving it to Wollongong for a family reunion this weekend quick 2500 K,s

I just collected another batch of 20 brackets from the machine shop yesterday. 8 of them were pre-ordered and these have now all been despatched. Lots of other people have expressed interest in these brackets. So if you want one, then I have 12 left in stock.

I received and installed my bracket about a month ago on my XJ6. I must say I'm very happy with the results. The difference isn't dramatic but is noticeable. This

The best way to describe the difference in power and responsiveness is to the difference in driving with the aircon 'on' as apposed to it 'off'. Remember, this is on an XJ6, so no supercharger.

Also, in 'Sport' mode it pulls smoothly and strongly to the red-line in the lower gears.

Highly recommend it.
