Default Does anyone know who makes the Jaguar oil filters EBC9658

Hello guys,

Not terribly expensive at 18 dollars, but I would like to know who is the actual manufacturer for the Jaguar labeled EBC9658 oil filters I buy at the dealer. I realize that there are other options out there and I have tried them, just seems the oil comes out a little nicer looking at oil change time when the Jaguar filter is used. Who knows, maybe placebo effect.

Anyway, if anyone knows what manufacturer makes them for Jaguar please let me know

No idea now, but when I was Parts Manager up to 2003 it was widely suggested that it was under licence by Crossland.

We had some in stock, obviously, that were made in USA, Turkey, Germany, UK, so I really doubt there is a "one time" supplier. I reckon it changes with contract arrangements based on the owner of the "marque" at the time.

Down here I use the Crossland whenever I can find them, and that is getting harder, and the last 6 were Wixx brand, made in Israel. Maan have appeared on my Jags, as has Ryco, Fram etc, and never really had issues of any sort.

Like you, I buy filters from my Jaguar Dealer. The service interval on my current car is 10K miles and it takes around £3000 ($4655 US) in fuel to cover that distance. Any saving on an aftermarket 'equivalent' filter isn't even worth considering!

I always check the labeling on Jaguar parts out of interest to see why our domestic motor parts manufacturing industries in the UK are disappearing. As Grant says, they are sourced from all over the World.

Over the last couple of years, XK8 oil filters supplied by UK Jaguar Dealers have changed from German manufacture to Poland. No reason to think other Jaguar models haven't followed the same pattern. With the growing Chinese economy, more components for UK motor vehicles will be sourced there as European manufacturers cannot compete on labour rates.

Next time you buy from Jaguar, check the package source as well as the parts source label. Very often they are made in different places.

I suspect you're correct.

FWIW, Wixx is generally considered a superior brand in the USA.

With all the label-engineering that goes on it's really hard to know what you're getting, it seems.

I'm glad this thread came up as I've exhausted my supply of EBC9658s and need to re-order. I would've forgotten otherwise. Easier to have some on the shelf than scrambling around town looking for a replacement!

Cheers

The bar code will tell you the country of origin. Look at the first numbers below the code. If it is the UK it will say 50, Japan 49, Taiwan 471, France 30 - 37, Germany 40 - 44, the USA or Canada 00 - 09, and China 690 - 692. Hope this helps.
