Question Door speaker grill removal? Do they pop out?

Can the round door speaker grills be removed without taking the door panel off?

My LH drivers side speaker grill has gotten pushed in at some point, and I'd like to pop it back out. But I don't want to remove the whole door panel and loosen the factory nylon nuts/rivets if I don't have to as the door is all still very tight.

So I wondered if the round grills themselves might pop out?

.

Nope, you'll have to take the panel off, then the speaker out of the panel, if my memory serves me right. Everything screwed in. But it's not a biggie to take those panels off.

The door panels are a work of art, they are a joy to take apart, truly like fine furniture

That one fastener at the arm rest can be a bit of a bit(ter ex wife) but otherwise not a bad task:

Try a needle and thread through the holes you might get away with it

Just did one this weekend. Get a small fish hook size 2 or 4. pinch the barb, bend the pointy end out some, grab shank with locking pliers, hook thru a hole, pull very slowly (grille metal is soft). Look at the other doors... all HK grilles are somewhat concave.

And no... Im pretty sure you have to pull the door [edit:trim], then separate the door pocket assembly from the main panel just to remove a speaker to get to the grille.

Notice, early speaker grills are metal and later (somewhere 1996 USA MY+) grills are plastic. Al, yours are plastic. Right?

Yep, we are "in tune" .... I was thinking along those lines instead of removing the panel. I just haven't taken the time to give it a try.

As far as plastic versus metal, I think mine are metal. Not 100% sure though, but they feel/sound like metal from what I recall.
