Doors lock as you start to drive.
When I start to drive away from a standstill in my 1995 XJ6 3.2 (X300) there is a "CLICK" noise and all 4 doors lock. I can see the logic of this as an Anti Car-jacking solution but personally, I would rather it didn't happen. I would much rather press that button on the dash that looks like a car door to lock / unlock all the doors manually and as required.
As I understand it, I should be able to take my car into a Jaguar Main Dealers and get them to disable this automatic feature but I have a couple of questions. 1 ... Is it possible to do this properly at home? 2 ... Is it a case of, "Just sit there and have a coffee while I get one of the lads to do it", or is it a case of, "We'll call you next week when you can come and collect your car". 3 ... Is there a charge to do this and if there is, what would be the normal cost? I would hate to get there and then collapse in a quivering heap on the showroom floor after being told that it costs £220. Hey 5tevie, sounds like the auto lock mechanism is activated. This usually kicks in once you get above 5mph - 10mph or similar. iirc on the X types and others I'm almost sure you can acivate / deactivate this yourself ( not sure on yours though ) but hopefully someone a little more knowledgable than me will chime in..... Worst case scenario post this into the XJ section and you may get a better response there. Update - just found this ....doesn't look good I'm afraid https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...utolock+cancel |
Hi all,
As advised, I have posted this question on the X300 specific forum so please let this thread just slide off the bottom of the page and into obscurity. Cheers, Steve |
I just discovered that mine on my XJ6 (x300) 1995 3.2 auto is doing the same. As I put from park into drive or reverse the doors then automatically lock, however its not causing a problem as when exiting they open as they do. It would be nice though to know the reason.

Look for the discussion by 5tevie in the X300 section. It was less than a year ago but basically you need to have the feature enabled/disabled with PDU, WDS, IDS etc.
It's also known as 'drive-away locking'. bob gauff |
