Fast flashing indicators

Hi all,
I have a strange fault with my 1995 X300 3.2 straight 6.
My left indicators flash fast when the headlamps are on. They flash at normal speed when the headlamps are off. I have located the multipin connector behind the front splash panel in the wheelarch, and upon taking it apart I found the connector to be perfectly clean, no corrosion, and bone dry. A continuity test reveals all wires are connected. Nevertheless, I tried running an extra earth wire from the indicators but it made no difference. I have tried disconnecting the sidelight and headlight bulbs but that didn't alter anything either, the indicators still flash fast when the headlamps are switched on even without bulbs in.
Any clues...?
It's going for the dreaded mot this afternoon and he'll fail it on that for sure...
Thanks!

Are all bulbs going when they flash fast?

Yes, all 4 left hand side indicator bulbs flash fast when the headlights are on. The right hand side behave normally. The hazards flash fast also if the headlights are on at the same time, normal if not.

I needn't have worried about the mot test... she sailed through it!
When the tester switched on the indicators he didn't have the lights on!! Result!
I still have the problem to fix though... whatever it may be... but at least I can still drive it.

Well done, I had wondered if that would be the case lol

I had an odd one myself yesterday. My bumper indicator was not flashing (so others flashing fast). When I took the bulbs out they looked fine, so I gave them both (and the holder) a good dose of contact cleaner and just put them back. They then worked!

So I recommend the same treatment to all your bulbs, you never know, it may just start working again!

I'll try that, but as all my bulbs are working I doubt it'll cure it. Things were so much simpler before computers... When it was a battery, a wire, a fuse, a switch, and an item. Simple. As soon as there is a computer involved it all goes wrong...
