flickering lamp on opening door
 

my 94 x300 sovereign has a very annoying problem
when opening drivers door interior lamp pulses as well as marker lamps in the doors with an audible loud ticking noise from round the area of the nsr door
if any other doors are opened,the lamps dont flash and tick,and function normally
its like a strobe light
making me ill
can anybody help?

You have a faulty switch inside the door latch.

Remove the latch assembly and clean the switch. Or replace the latch assembly, as it comes with a new switch.

u mean the striker plate assy inside the door?
is it easily accessible

I mean the actual lock and latch mechanism inside the door. If you've removed one on any other car you can do the job on your Jaguar. It's just tight access to the fasteners and linkage and a little tricky wriggling it out of the door. You'll need small tools!


With the mechanism removed you then remove the switch and clean it with contact cleaner. The switch cannot be disassembled...it's a tiny thing....but you can remove the little rubber boot that protects the plunger and spray enough electrical contact cleaner inside to do the job. There's no hope of reinstalling the little boot so just put a glob of thick grease over the area to seal it.

To remove the door trim you'll need to slide the wood trim forward to reveal the upper panel screws. There is also a screw, as I recall, at the door handle cup. Look for a hidden screw behind the rubber air flow duct at the front of the door. I recall a couple screws holding the armrest on as well.

Once you've found all the screws the lower panel will pop off if levered with a trim tool or a wide spatula-type tool.

have the same problem with one of my doors in my 95 vanden plas. i figured out it was just a loose wire. i looked at the work to get the assy out and figured it wasnt worth my time. i taped the wire into a postion wwere it was working (not strobing) and now it works about half of the time. so i would play around with the wires in there before you just replace the assy.

by contact spray do you mean electrical contact spray because the same probem just started happening in my car. and how do i get it apart to clean it?
