Gasping for Breath

I went to pass a car the other day with my XJR and it did not perform the way I thought it would when I slammed the pedal to the floor. Dont get me wrong the car is definitely fast but it happened again today when I hit the pedal to the floor. Instead of taking off like a rocket like my dads '98 750iL does (which has the same HP only its a V12) my XJR felt like it was gasping for air and the car studdered a little until I let off the gas.

So what do you guys think something to do with the dual fuel pumps?? Or should I have the supercharger tested to see if its up to snuff?

As long as I dont pedal to the metal the car is still very fast when you hit the gas.

I would begin with cleaning the TB. The 6 cylinder models didn't have the trouble the v8 motors had, but it's a cheap start. Airflow meters were a fairly common culprit with these guys, but still not a major wear problem.

Ahhh yes. I forgot about the throttle body issue. That'll be the first thing I do in the morning is check and clean that baby out.

Ken, on another note. Im still in the search for the 18" Penta style wheels for my XJR. Didnt see any listed on your company's site a few weeks back, but was wondering if you had any other connections to get a good used set. I found one used set for $1400 from Jag Bits a couple weeks back but didnt really think I should spend that much considering tires are almost $300 a pop for the Pirellis!

I don't believe I have a line on the Penta wheels, but I will check.

Ken, I was messing around with the XJR this morning before work. Took out the air box (filter was filthy), air intake, and the top plate where it reads "XJR6." I still couldnt find what could be a traditional throttle body to clean out. I had the Haynes repair manual from my 1993 XJ6 using as a slight reference. I kept looking for something similar to my old Jag and Jeeps where the square looking throttle body was held down by 4 bolts and then you could clean out the inside where the flap moves.

Anyways, am I missing something clearly obvious? Right now the whole air intake and the top plate are still off, but I wont be able to poke around with it again until tomorrow.
