hello, I just had a rebuilt p/s pump and rebuilt rack installed on my car that was purchased from conventry west, and hoping that the humming noise would go away didnt. When I make a turn to the right I get a humming noise from the front of the car, but only does it when I am turning the car to the right, and I also experience steering wheel tension when I do make that turn. Could this possibly be a wheel bearing gone bad??

 

I couldn't imagine wheel bearings making this noise during cornering;
I would suspect inner & outer tie rods if you didn't have them replaced when you had the new rack put on.

The right side tie rod end could be more worn out, causing the pump to work harder?
just a hunch.

have you checked the condition of the fluid while it makes the noise? if the fluid is foaming, then air is getting into the system somehow, either by loose or defective plumbing, or the reservoir itself.

 

Yeah, I agree. I think the humming might be air in the system or perhaps a kinked pipe or hose....some sort of "fluid dynamics" type of thing.

Call Coventry....the guy who run the rebuild shop, Dick Maury, is very sharp. He can probably give you some concrete answers.
