I've had a belt-squeal for about 5k miles now....(I distinctly recall the first time I heard it - first cold-start I did after the last oil change at 132,650.) Now in the high 137K range. I painted the top of a timing tooth, down its front face, across the first pulley, across the front belt, and on the rim of the front pulley face - all in a (reasonably) straight line. I snapped the following pics after a few days' driving post-marking:







The white mark on top of the timing tooth aligned with the other mark in this view is not mine, just a stray water-spot or something. Look at the front face of the timing teeth. You can see the white dot on the front pully rim to the right side of the pic. the timing tooth I marked is still aligned with it, but obscured by the belt. I believe the mark on the middle pulley should still be aligned with the one on the timing tooth and the front pulley rim. - Hence, damper failure, no?

Ahh well, I just registered on DamperDoctor.com and sent them an email requesting confirmation that they don't have any and inqired about getting mine rebuilt. FWIW, I've had dampers fail on both the Excursion and the 03 S-Type and they made the exact same noise - a short, high-pitched chirp on cold start for about 5 min. This one is waaay different - still limited to cold-starts, but lower in pitch and much longer in duration.

Needs other stuff, too - I have a Gonzo Hoodliner still in the box from Christmas, Headliner replacement wouldn't hurt (maybe find and eliminate that bothersome sunroof rattle) Heater wasn't so much last winter -so a coolant flush and attempt to clear htr core passages. Compounding that issue, the butt-heaters have never worked (Light lights and relay clicks but no warming) so I've got an aftermarket kit I plan to use the blankets out of. I have worn a hole in the side-bolster of the driver's seat. Hopefully in a coupla weeks I'll have it ready for another year's commute!
