Default I need new ignition coil wires

Bottom line is they're old and the insulation around them is slowly cracking off. Has anyone tackled this before? I haven't been able to find any replacements online. Would I need to completely rewire as much as I can by myself?

That's probably your best choice. If you could find a new harness the price would shock you.

I just paid an extra $45 (in additional to the base $10) to get one day shipping for a lower radiator hose that only cost $38. Very little shocks me when it comes to price and what we're forced to pay if we want convenience. I need/want to drive my car so I have to be willing to pay that extra money.

For the ignition coil wires I suppose I'll start by getting some old connectors from a salvage yard so I can make the switch with my 'new' wiring harness as quickly as possible. Now I just need to run to the shops and get some spare time.

What about the wires that are available on Rockauto? Are those not correct?

If you would provide a link or part # for the wires to which you are referring it would be appreciated.

Sorry.

I'm about to buy a full set of coils for $450 and I want to do new plugs and everything else in the ignition system. I want it all new. I didn't mean to be lazy. Basically, I'm checking what all do i need - Coils, spark plugs, what else?

Do I need these?
More Information for DENSO 6716295

Thanks!

Where did you find Denso coils? I did not know that they made them for X300 Jaguar. Rock Auto seems to stock Beck/Arnley, Cambiare and Airtex/Wells. I will never install a part from Beck/Arnley on any of my cars, I wasted too much time chasing out issues with brand new parts that I got from them for my Land Rovers.

I have no experience with the other two brands. AFAIK the true and honest OEM manufacturer for these coils is a Japanese company called Diamond. If I were to shell out big bucks for coils I would lean towards the manufacturer that originally made them for Jaguar. They seem to last around 100K, which is fine by me, nothing made by human hands lasts forever.

Hello guys, the coil connector pigtails are available from the Motorcraft connector catalogue. These are the 2014 part numbers:

I have a AJ16 powered XJS and have had to replace these connectors in my car. Obviously we use the same coils, MAF , etc. Currently I am trying to figure out what connector works for the CTS from the catalogue. I did not build a whole harness, but have been thinking about it for a long time. The only problem with Motorcraft connectors for the coils is that the wires are too thick, so if you want to build a whole harness you would have to find some thin high voltage wires like the originals

Here is the connector catalogue. Most of the AJ16 connectors are probably there :

Mark;
why do you make reference to "high voltage wires?"

For the ignition coils. Those thin wires are not standard wiring harness wire AFAIK. I am under the impression they are a type of thin high voltage wire . Am I wrong? Because that's the main reason I have been reluctant to create an entire coil harness out of standard wiring

The wires might indeed be unique in some way....but not high voltage. Just 12v like the rest of the car!

Cheers

You sure about that? If that's really the case I could have made a new coil harness with the connectors I linked above a long time ago!!

I am SURE that the voltage on those wires is battery voltage- They are the primary side of the coil! The only possible question might be temperature rating, but I have to believe the Aftermarket wires would have a suitable rating for this application. Good luck with your harness.

Rock Auto seems to have the Motorcraft part for the ignition coils, but it's labeled as a power window connector MOTORCRAFT Part # WPT1210

Well I already bought some SXL 16 gauge wire which I think is the most heat resistant, and will be making a little harness with new connectors. Hopefully it won't be too difficult.

My pleasure . I have been meaning to post it because the first AJ16 cars- XJS or X300 are about to hit 20 and harnesses are in all of our futures to some degree.

Now I am trying to figure out from that catalogue what the connectors are for the CTS, and the fuel injectors, which the XJS and X300 also share

I just had a new harness installed, after my XJR STILL had intermittent rough running and various codes after many other issues were dealt with. My independent Jag mechanic ordered a factory wire harness from England, for $750, plus a whole lot of labour because of the supercharger. Sigh. But it's now running right, strong, and smooth.

I hope for everyone else that an aftermarket connector/wire combo can be made up instead of what I had to pay.
