Instructions for opening X300 1995 XJR remote fob
Can someone direct me to, or provide instructions for opening the X300 1995 XJR remote fob so I can see the FCC transmitter ID?
I need to examine the last 3 numbers of the FCC transmitter ID to determine the frequency of the fob. I have one fob that works fine and a another one I bought on eBay that doesn't. I want to rule out frequency mis-match before I go any further. I just don't want to do anything wrong to damage the fob while opening it since these things are so rare (and expensive). Thanks!! |
If it is the same as the fob for a 1995 XJ6 with the 2 buttons it is just a case of using a sharp tool to pry open one end of the brass ring and then pulling the ring away from the fob. Then use a knife to pry apart the 2 halves.
That's how I did mine. |
is there a battery in there ??

The freq . is on the the outside of the battery cover itself and it takes 2 X 3 volt batteries . You need good light or a magnify glass in the dollar isle at the hardware store or you can test drive there more expensive magnifying glass product offerings . Be careful of the cheap dollar store batteries .
Don't pry on the battery cover as the removal instructions are in TSB 18- 9 below and replacement microswitches and rubber button covers are avail on Ebay , cheap and free shipping . There are a couple of TSBs on the FOB in this source starting with 18 - 4 : http://www.jagrepair.com/X300TSB.htm 1995 is most likely a 315 hz and 433 hz came in later on the X300 Just picked up a 315 from a small salvage yard for $ 20 and will see if it works later . |
