My XJR met his great-great- uncle today

This weekend in Napier NZ we have had our Art Deco weekend, fantastic celebration of Art Deco stuff, and the best bit for me is always the cars. 270 vintage cars in a parade plus many more visit for the weekend.
at the supermarket tonight I came out o find a Speed Six Bentley parked next to me. These cars are superb, they won Le Mans in 1928 or 30. ( rusty on the year). 6.5 litre straight 6, 180-200 bhp, lovely English tourer. Made in Cricklewood not Coventry.. While Walter Owen Bentley was making these, Swallow Sidecars were making fancy bodies for Austin Sevens and planning upgraded side-valve Standards,- the SS100 was a glint in the eye at that point

These 2 photos show my dads Alvis 12/50 tourer with the hood up (still drying out from the torrential rain on the parade the day before), parked in front of a very rare Bentley 3 litre SuperSports. These Bentleys were guaranteed 100 mph when new, and were the dog's bits in 1925. 13 were made.
my Alvis is more mundane with 1700cc engine and can hit 65 mph but happier cruising at 50-55.
