Default Need shop in S.F. Bay to rebuild differential

This is my first post, I have just purchased a 1995 VDP w/ 178,000 miles. The differential is making noise and I need to find a shop to rebuild or if someone has a used unit I could put it in. Even with the noise and the miles this is the finest car I have ever driven. Thanks for any help.

Why not just get one from the wrecking yard or ebay? probably much cheaper than rebuilt, Your car has 180k miles , you dont need to spend $$$ to put something brand new/rebuilt in there

Given the failure rate of these diffs and the amount of labor involved ($$$) to replace one, I wouldn't feel too comfortable going used.

Just my two cents

Cheers

I much agree with doug,

if you want the replacement diff to last any amount of time, get either a new one, or one that has been rebuilt by SPECIALISTS, i.e. motorcars LTD or coventry west, people who know a thing or two about the salisbury rear ends.
I've seen & heard horror stories about jag differentials rebuilt by places like AAMCO, etc. that have needed replacement in under a year.

Any shop can install them as long as they follow the proper service procedures as outlined in the JDHT service manual.

it WILL cost money,
it WILL be worth it.
trust me.

and change your differential fluid every 30k and check it every 3-5k!!!

Default S.F. Rearend rebuild

Thank you all for your advice. I got a rebuilt from Coventry and had Alameda Transmisson put it in also new Bilsten Shocks, rear wheelbearings, New Radiator/heater hoses, EGR, Coils,Plugs, Drivers door cable, new headliner, new paint job and have Michlen pilots ordered.
It passed Ca Smog. All told around 7K for for the best driving car I have ever driven that gets complements every time my wife lets me drive it to the gas station or car wash. I guess it time to start looking on ebay for one for me.

Oh definitely time to get you one.

EGR should have been covered under a recall and you shouldn't have had to pay for it to be replaced if it hasn't been already.

otherwise good to hear :]

One of the reasons I purchased this car was it has been maintained by the dealer and the only owner had all of the records including the egr recall, darn it!

Interested in one of my xj6s? I am near SFO and have a silver 1995 and white 1997.

The silver one was just smogged and new tires. I have too many cars and will give you a great price and no ebay shipping BS. I also have a 1996 VDP Im parting out so I can give you any parts you might need for your cars.
