Talking OBD II now I'm confused

exactly which scanner will work on a 1995 x300? I see a lot of conflicting information on-line. I only the see the xj6 mentioned once in the posted sticky about scanners. What do you guys use? I have a harbor frieght near me, plus sears and your standard array of auto parts stores. I would like to purchase one this weekend. Thanks for everyones help on my different posts the last couple of days. Scott

Brutal is, of course, right. However, there are a number of different protocols used for OBDII communication. The X300 MY95 uses ISO 9141-2, so be sure your choice says it is compatible with that protocol. And buy from a reputable place, as in some one who will take it back if it does not work. You will find that a scanner that gives a chart or oscilloscope is most useful, but they are also more expensive, and usually require dragging out a laptop to interface.

Thanks Brutal and Sparkenzap I will use that information as I search for a code reader I can use. The ISO number is very useful. I have never used a reader before and I think it will open a whole new world as far as diagnostics is concerned.

shortbus:
Yes, it will. However, be careful. It is just like any other diagnostic method or tool- only an indication and not to be "trusted" on its own. And be sure you are using a Jaguar list of codes. Sometimes ther are discrepencies in the meaning of the higher number codes.

I bought my code scanner today. Took the car out for a spin after getting a new battery and stopped at sears. bought the Craftsman CanOBD2 model 87702. Says it works on all obd2 cars. It has Jaguar in the specific code menu. I can take it back if it does not work. Will give it a try in the morning, feeling lazy now. I'll let you guys know how successful it is. Thanks for all your help.
