OBD2 live gauges displayed to tablet?

2 Attachment(s)
So recently I purchased a OBD2 code reader that outputs via bluetooth to an app that runs on a phone or tablet. This app, called Torque Lite (free version) or Torque Pro (I think $3.99) besides being able to pull and clear codes also has a live gauge display (see attached pics showing some examples) that shows various live data from the various OBD2 data streams. There is also the option to customize the gauge display to your liking. Many of the app users have done various mods to their cars to mount phones or tablets into their cars to display the output from the app.

The OBD2 scanner is a small blue plastic thing available from Amazon or Ebay for $7 - $12 and when using like this it stays permanently plugged into the OBD2 diag port under the dash. To find these on ebay just search for "obd2 bluetooth scanner"

I thought I would pass this along to others here in case other forum members here were interested in this sort of thing.

I use that torque app as well and it's rather fun.
I recently had a go at the 0-60 tool and was pleased to see my 4.0 sovereign still moves Ok. Some thanks to that bracket from Andy I believe.

So what is the tablet we're seeing in that picture - some sort of Android flavor device? Or an Apple iPad mini?

Thanks again

Also very handy to turn off the CEL until I get around to changing out the faulty O2 sensor.

Torque is an Android app

I am using it with Android tablets or phones. I don't have any Apple equipment so I have no idea if the app is available on that platform.

I am also using Torque Pro with an XJ6 1995. Works well.

Do you get all 4 sensors to graph output?

In my car, Bank 2 Sensor 2 data graph is always ZERO Volts (short or open circuit?). All 3 others graph OK. I was wondering if this is a known problem or if I have a short in the wire harness (I have new O2 sensors). I guess I could have an air leak in the cat converter.

thanks,
Joh

Torque is the most popular OBD reader but isn't available on iOS (Apple) unfortunately, unless things have changed recently.

But there are a bunch of other apps out there like Torque for iOS too.

Most of the Android apps will use Bluetooth, but iOS has to use WiFi (again unless things have changed in the last year-ish), so make sure you choose the correct OBDII transmitter for the phone/tablet and app you choose.

Can you provide a screenshot showing this? Or if not able to do that describe how to get to the screen where you are seeing this? A screenshot would be best however.

It's in the usual live-data screen. I add a "Graph" for all 4 o2 sensor voltages (bank 1 pre/post, bank 2 pre/post). I can see 3 graphs behaving normally going up and down. 4th sensor is flat (0 volts). All new sensors.
Screenshot might take a while.

On one ECU I was getting a Bank 2 Sensor 2 O2 out of range code (PO158 I think). On another ECU (without any EPROM upgrade) no Engine lights appear...shows all OK. Very odd. Using yet another ECU (which made car run rough) it did show O2 voltages on all 4 O2 sensors at some points. Yes, electrical gremlins probably.

Another good eBay search term for these devices is ELM327.

Cheers,

Don
