OE Shocks & Foam or Rubber Bushings?

Hey, Just wondering if anyone knew what was OE on X300's as far as front shocks and their upper mounting bushings?

My '92 XJ40 Sovereign had Boge/Sachs originally installed with foam upper shock mounts.

My '96 XJ12 has KYB Gas-a-Just shocks with rubber upper shock mounts. Does anyone know what shocks are OE for the XJ12? Do XJ12's have "Sport" or "Comfort" suspensions? I've seen both terms used.

I was wondering if the newer X300 cars all had rubber mounts, or if the P.O. just installed whatever came in the box with the aftermarket shocks.

I'm thinking about buying a new pair of correct OE shocks and upper mounts, and I wasn't sure if I'd be looking for rubber upper mounts, or foam like my XJ40 has.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Nick

Well, I can't answer specifically for the XJ12 as I don't have the time to go look at the part numbers at the moment, but if you visit the following link, I found all the part #s I needed to replace my rear shock bushings and rubber bits with the correct OE part for my model/year. All the parts were available from various Jaguar parts dealers direct and a few via Amazon believe it or not :D

Thanks Al, that second link is especially helpful! Foam mounts are the way to go it seems. The aftermarket rubber ones on the car have a bit of cracking, so I think I'd like to replace them with the proper foam ones.

I also need to replace the sway bar bushings, but there are parts listed for both Comfort and Sport, and I'm not sure which suspension package my XJ12 has.

I wish Jaguar had a system of RPO codes like GM does, it makes ordering parts far easier knowing what each car is equipped with.

Thanks,
Nick

Conventional wisdom is that all X300 V12s to the USA market had the comfort suspension.

Thanks Doug.

The odd thing is that some XJ6 suspension parts labeled as "Sport" are the same as those used on XJ12s with "Comfort" suspension. Maybe due to the heavier front end of the V12, some XJ6 sport suspension parts were used due to the extra weight of the front end?

After doing a little research, the OE yellow foam shock mounts are actually made from "Microvon", a proprietary polyurethane foam manufactured by Dunlop.

Not sure if they are a good idea or not, but there are also aftermarket poly rear shock and spring bushings available:

You're right, it is because of the heavy V12.
The spring is also different.

Are the foam bushings #5 in this image?

No those are the spring seat insulators
The foam bushings are 13 and 14 in the pictures

That was my next guess - my new shocks came with those - nothing else to buy.

Thanks AlbBolivar!!
