Question Part number(s) for exterior door handle gasket?

Tried looking through Jaguar Classics parts diagrams, to no avail.... searching here didn't turn anything up either.

Anyone know the part numbers for the exterior door handle gaskets? My drivers door exterior handle gasket is starting to crack.

Hi Al,

I just took a look at jaguarclassicparts.com, jaguarmerriamparts.com, and in the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC), and none of them show a gasket for the external handle available as a separate part. They do show a gasket for the inside door handle escutcheon. It might be worth giving Jaguar Merriam Parts a call to see if the guys there may be able to help (they're the Jag dealer in Merriam, KS who sell Jag parts online at discount prices).

If the gaskets are not available separately, you might be able to use an old gasket as a pattern and make your own new one from rubber sheet obtained from a local roofing, plumbing or HVAC supply, or online from McMaster-Carr. It comes in suitable thicknesses (1/32", 1/16", 1/8"). There are several grades. The non-marking neoprene might be a good choice.

I replaced the rubber flaps in a radiator cooling fan shroud with standard neoprene and it worked great. You just need to use a very sharp knife to get neat cuts.

Cheers,

Don

These may be it:

Left hand: JLM12031GSK

Welsh Enterprises, Inc - Jaguar XK8 / XKR (97-06) Body Fittings Front Doors Parts - Left Door Handle Gasket

Right hand: JLM12032GSK

Welsh Enterprises, Inc - Jaguar XK8 / XKR (97-06) Body Fittings Front Doors Parts - Right Door Handle Gasket

Also, are the late 1990s XK8 exterior door handles the same as the X300? The links above seem to indicate they may be.

If so, I see the following:

Kit for left and right: JLM12035KIT

I bought 2 off eBay for about $40.00. They are not OEM Jaguar but look to be decent quality. I have not installed them yet though. They are always on eBay, I will look up the seller when I get a chance.

Nice, mines are starting to crack and was looking into it also. Glad I stumbled upon this thread. How difficult is it to remove the handle? Does it have to be taken apart from inside the door? Any ideas?

Yep, from inside the door. It isn't hard at all to remove once you have the door panel off. If I recall, there are two bolts that hold a frame to the inside of the door skin. Once the bolts are removed, it comes right off (with rods/linkage needing to be disconnected too).

$80 for each gasket? That's insane!

Exclamation You can get one for $40

$80 for the pair, there are also links above for buying them individually for ... surprise.... $40

Still high for sure, but $40 is better than $80

There is this aftermarket option for $35 a pair that I have on my car. They're not the softest rubber out there but seem to do the job, and they fit the factory door handles with a minimum of stretching.

Thanks, yep those are the ones I first found, but they were listed as XK gaskets when I cross-referenced the part numbers.

It appears they are the same as the XJ door handles.

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but no one mentions the rear door handle gaskets (including vendors). Any chance that they are the same as the fronts?

According to my copy JEPC:

Door handle escutcheon gasket - P/N GMB 1152AA - Quantity 4

So it's identical gaskets used on the four doors. Same P/N is also used on the XJ40.

Many thanks. I just got all four off eBay for 56 bucks. Having spent much of its life in Phoenix, all four were absolutely crumbling.
