I have a problem I wanted to remove the pin stripes on my xjr . turquoise with the triple red pin stripes.well started with e heat gun no joy.so moved on too my rubber wheel decal remover works a treat apart from o/s/r door and n/s/r door and rear quater I can not remove and I think they have been laquared over.and the lower one I have not touched but looks like some is standard some laquared and one door looks like it's been painted. What are my options apart from A full respray...help anyone wet and dry!!!

 

Some very gentle wet sanding with 1200 or even 1500 grade paper on a sanding block should enable you to get through the stripes while leaving the base coat intact. Thereafter re lacquering should do it.
Much patience required with the sanding!!
My car is a solid colour, and it looks as if the stripes are painted on. Thinking about it, I would have thought that at the factory, the stripes would have been painted on after the lacquer had been applied to the whole vehicle, but maybe not, or perhaps some of your car has been repainted/ lacquered at a subsequent stage.

 

I know from the service history it's had some laquared repaired now I know where both rear doors and nsr quater panel...but on another note the twin stripes on nsr front door and wing look painted on and the rest look like transfers but I have not attacked that as now I've opened a can of worms

 

Just wondering Stevie, why did you want to remove them?

 

Don't like the pin stripes look 100 % better with out
