Possible XJ12 purchase.

I love my 96 XJ6 but at the same time I was also curious how much faster the xj12 would be.

I found one with 50k miles on it.

Are there any serious issues with these v12 models ? It’s a 96 model. Extra power and extra leg room would be appreciated.

Any input from you guys will be gladly taken.

Thanks.

twice as many things to go wrong on the engine but it is a sublime unit.
The cooling system is of paramount importance.
Check out the XJS forum for the horror stories!
Saying that, I have had 5 V12 Jags and they have all been fairly reliable.
As for speed, that really only comes in when you reach close to 3 figures so not much difference in normal driving.

Thanks for chiming in.
Its a 6.0 v12 and a Gm 4 speed from what I understand.
Low mile car that needs cosmetics. It’s black in color which I dread on any car but on a JAG it’s absolutely tragic.

I think that the saloons look quite menacing in black.
If you do buy it change all the belts, coolant hoses, thermostats and fluids unless it has a comprehensive service history with it.
Any photos?

Black is great when it’s new. If it’s cared for well it will last but not better than any other color. Also black hides the curves and shapes of a car I feel. My XJ6 is white. I’d love a lavender or dark green or even burgundy color. But these cars are rare as is.

This is one is $2500. 50k miles. Second owner from 2000.

I’m just not convinced i need another XJ and only because it’s v12. But I want to own one v12 car in my life time and x300 cars are my favorite 4 door jags. I only drive on weekends and while I do have a long drive way and space around the house, none of the 3 cars I have now have a garage.

Where is this car located? I may be interested if you pass.

NJ.

I'd grab it. These cars are assume. 322 HP, ....a jet.

I have one I'm finishing.
A fender is easy to find.

Not worried about a fender as much as the unknown. There is a power steering leak. The biggest bummer is black color.

If you don't like black then don't buy it; look for another one!

I agree. It’s just the combination of low miles, v12, desire to save a very rare car is doing a number on me.

Leas than a 1000 of these in USA. And while v8 cars are fine a dozen. I went out of my way to find a 45k mike 96 XJ6 in white. So perhaps a black one would not be as bad as I make it out to be.

I have to go see it.

Wife will probably go nuts as I have 3 hobby cars already. 🤣

I was outside Number 10 Downing Street 2 weeks ago.
All the proper people arrived in black Jags.
Very ministerial.

That looks like a 6cyl VDP. If it were only closer to me.

Oh My. I was so excited when it came out in a search for a xj12 I didn’t even notice it’s a xj6.

Thanks.

Still could be a great low mile car for under $3000 with a new fender.

Keep looking!

Although the moment has now passed, to address the original question regarding issues with the V12: yes, there are some.
Basically everything is more complex and scarcer than on the 6 cylinder cars, and they inhale fuel at an alarming rate for smooth but less than stellar performance. The XJR is the better route for more performance, although they tend to know the shortest route to the filling station too!

The V12's are built to cruise effortlessly at high speeds rather than very spirited driving.

Thank you for chiming in.

I’m not terribly concerned with fuel economy as these are hobby cars for me. My xj6 barely gets 15- 20 mpg so I’m not counting.

With that said, I guess there is no point in owning same cars with different motors unless some incredible deal comes along.

I will lean towards w140 MB 600 at this point. Owned a s500 that was years ago and it was great. Driven an s600 with m120 and it was incredible.
