Powerhouse.co.uk lower supercharger pulley
#21
Hi Al - I have just fitted a Powerhouse lower pulley to my XJR here in Nelson, NZ a couple of weeks ago but have hardly driven it and now it looks like a knock sensor may be faulty as Restricted Performance keeps coming on and the code for knock sensor comes up intermittent when checked - this was showing up occasionally before the pulley was installed.. Despite this the mechanic who installed the pulley says he is wondering if the cars fuel flow is not able to keep up with the new pulley installation and has asked if I could research if anyone has had an issue with fuel flow after installing the pulley - I take it all is good with your vehicle still?

Hi Gobbers
My fuel is fine.
The X300 XJRs have 2 fuel pumps, immersed in the petrol, in the tank. Don’t run below 1/4 tank as the petrol cools the pumps..use 98
It sounds like your problem pre-dates the pulley.
Since getting my pulley installed a month ago, I bought a Kiwi3 OBDII Bluetooth device which has revealed my throttle only opens 51% of maximum. I’ve posted about this elsewhere in this X300 section of the forum. I’ve now got it up to 57% which has made a big difference, and my mechanic is going to put it on his Jaguar PDU in two days’time to try to recalibrate the traction control unit. Maybe if I can ever get close to full throttle I’ll have some other issues too...
I don’t know anything about knock sensors - start a post asking for help about knock sensors if nothing comes up with a search of the forum.
I don’t know how much $$ you want to spend on your car, but I am getting a price for proper extractors, done by a guy here in Hastings who used to work for Oz Supercar teams and still builds some headers/extractors for some teams. Not cheap, perhaps 2-3000$NZD. Maybe get your knock sensor sorted first. I am lucky to have a really good mechanic here in Napier who spends 50% or more of his time on XJSes and X300s, E types, XJ40s etc, and worked in U.K. for jag dealerships 25-30 yrs ago. I don’t know the lie of the land in Nelson, you may need some help, these cars can be tricky. Good luck, there is some good experience on these forums, so keep asking questions, no one minds

Mine was similar when I got it, and with careful adjustment I was able to get it to 97% - close enough.

Larry,
my IAT runs on average 20'C above ambient here in Summer, recent temps 22-26'C
if I 'floor it' a few times, in will get to 35'C higher than ambient, but after 2-3 miles of cruising cools back down to about 20-25'C higher.
I put a new Bosch IC waterpump in a year ago, don't have any readings from before that.
never got anywhere near 74'C - highest ive seen is about 60'C after hard driving, full throttle, upto 90-100mph

Still curious if anyone knows the correct torque spec for the four bolts that hold the lower pulley on.
It shouldn't be hard to find. For example I would think this would be part of any harmonic balancer change on an XJR, so surely there are torque specs for these bolts available. But I haven't been able to find any.
This is really the only thing keeping me from fitting the pulley...
Anyone?
