Is the pressure control valve "rochester" discontinued?
 

Who in the world has the tank pressure control valve, otherwise known as the rochester valve, part number CBC7714. Dealer tells me its discontinued!:icon_sad:

I need to make sure of a couple things first. What year and model is your Jag? If it is an XJS, you might want to switch over to that forum.

Are you sure of the part number? Could you post a pic of the fouled part?

1995 xjr6,research and the local jag dealer tells me this part number fits on several jags. It looks just like the one in the pic but the pic is an ac delco 214552 and belongs to gm models. Think it will work?

Something doesn't look right.

Do you have a way to take a pic of the actual part on your vehicle?

ok i was able to find a pic of a jag fuel tank pressure control valve, rochester valve. the pic is of a much older jag part but it is the same part on my 95xjr6, so comparing the gm valve and the jag valve they both look the same. since i cant find a new jag replacement i will put this on instead. :icon_pala:

Looks the same to me although one possible caveat is the same basic valve *may* have been made with different pressure values for different applications <shrug>.

Out of curiosity what problem are you having that requires replacing this valve?

And, yes, you're right....the 7714 valve was used on many different Jags

It started with the car running very very rich and i noticed the smell of gas at the rear of the car. Then as i would drive the idle would increase to the point it would be at 2000 rpm, and the car would drive without me pressing the gas. let the car cool down and it would idle fine, drive well for a short time then start again. I just had the potentiometer reset when i replaced the tb for a larger bored tb, so my guess is that is fine. the valve is fitted directly into our tb adapter as it accounts for two of the three vaccum lines, the third being for the sc bypass valve. My guess is that the valve is faulty and allowing additional fuel to be sucked into the tb adapter. We shall see. What do you think?

Now I'm confused. The diagrams show the 7714 valve being mounted near the carbon cannisters at the rear of the car.

I'll have to do some mulling

yes the valve is located near the charcoal canister at the rear of the vehicle but the vacuum lines connect to the tb adapter vacuum lines. It receives vacuum via the purge valve located under the left headlamp, this valve is electrically operated, this line goes from the front of the vehicle to the fuel tank pressure control valve in the rear of the vehicle. The second line goes directly from the fuel tank pressure control valve, back to the front of the vehicle, to the tb sc adapter with no stops on the way.

took 10 min to change it out and it was an exact fit, fuel trims are back to normal and she runs grrrreat! should I have any problems, such as mentioned above by Doug, I will let you know. Otherwise, this is a great replacement for a discontinued part. the old valve i was able to blow air threw it while the new valve does not allow air to be blown threw it. This accounted for the extra fuel being sucked in by the sc tb adapter and causing very very rich trims and poor performance.

while the valve does look and fit exactly the same the pressure values are different. my car runs great, fuel trims are were they should be, but it wont pass smog. evidently the jaguar pressure values are different. does anyone know where I can find the valve new or perhaps the correct value so I can find a replacement. There are several valves made for different cars that look and fit exactly but pressure values are different. And while Im at it does anyone know where i can find a accelerator cable for a 95xjr with traction part number mna4620md as this part is also discontinued, or does anyone repair accelerator cables?

my thinking my car would not pass smog was based on my scanner telling me that evap was not ready. got tired of driving it around hoping that it would read ready after a number of drive cycles. In short I took it to smog and it passed ! mark this one as a good substitute for the original part...

it is located directly underneath the car, underneath passengers seat behind the driver. cant miss it.

I needed to replace this thing as my gas cap was under tremendous pressure. I used the Delco part and it works fine, no more pressure.


When using the Delco part you must observe that the arrow on the part points in the opposite direction. Therefore, you will need a rubber hose a bit longer than the original in order to flip the part around to the right orientation.

Last year, at about this time I used the same valve ACDelco-214-552. The part from Jaguar has been discontinued. I used this one after reading the posts. I didn't notice the arrow pointing the other direction. not to say that it wasn't there.
I didn't see it, and just swapped it out, without reversing anything, and this summer, almost exactly 1 year later, my tank just imploded. This car gets driven very little. (even less now)
BE VERY CAREFUL. do as I say, not as I do....I should have used the "quick fit check" at amazon parts. If I had, I would have seen that this part doesn't fit the 96 xjr. (backwards maybe?)

It is quite pricey, but I went ahead and ordered one. Feel much better putting in original part vs the AC Delco

I don't see a picture in the link. When do you get the part? It would be great if you could confirm to us that it is the right valve.
