Rear Suspension "Rattle" ... but wait, its triggered by the front!

Hi all.

I have a fairly typical rear rattle when the car is on bumpy roads. But to be specific ...

- When the front wheels go over a bump at low speed, the rear rattles! Metal parts clanging

- And when the entire car is on uneven road at moderate speed (60kmph), the rattling is a dull drumming, no sharp metallic rattles

I've had the following replaced barely a year ago! Any tips on the most likely component? Visually, the bushings seem ok ... but i could be wrong.

CAC46517 Front Anti Roll Bar Mounting Bush (Comfort)
CCC2806 Front Anti Roll Bar Mounting Bush (Sport)
CAC9827 Front Anti Roll Bar Link
MNC2360AB Front Subframe Vee Mounting
MNA2370AA Front Subframe Front Mount
CBC5523 Upper Wishbone Control Arm Bush
CAC9938 Top Front Suspension Ball Joint
JLM11860 Lower Front Suspension Ball Joint
CAC75851 Lower Front Shock Absorber Bush
CBC2301 Lower Fulcrum Control Arm Wishbone Bush
MMD1361AA Front Lower Outer Wishbone / Control Arm Bush
MNA7550AA Engine Mounting Rear
MNA7521AA Left Front Engine Mount
MNA7520AA Right Front Engine Mount

Thanks guys!

Rear shock mounts.

Yep +1, upper rear shock bushings, rear spring upper cushion, and possibly rear shock lower bushing.

And as an aside, thank you for combining all the part number for a front end rebuild in one post :)

The lower rear shock absorber mountings. Sounds like a squash ball rattling around inside a biscuit tin! Beware poor quality aftermarket replacements.
You need to remove the rear shocks to replace them, so you will have a chance to inspect the upper mounts as well. My bet would be the lower mounts, but might be worth replacing both for peace of mind. Check the A frame bushes while you are at it. Given all your hard work on the front suspension, the rear might be feeling left out!

Just to be sure, wait until the exhaust is cool, then look to see that all the rubbe rmounts are still in place- try to shake the exhaust system and make sure it is not contacting the underside of the car.

Sparkenzap, thanks for that. Checked this morning and it was fine, a good suggestion nonetheless.

Thank you all. I've decided to order a set of bilsteins since i figure nearing 100,000 km a fresh set would be nice. Looks like the upper and lower mounts will be included in the package.

I'm also toying with the idea of working in a monostrut. Read a couple of posts in the forum and it seems like its a do-able job. Perhaps, i'll create a list for a full rear suspension work out too! Look out for it! :)

New rear shocks transformed my car, even although there was nothing visibly wrong with the 100000 mile originals. I stayed with the OE shocks, but am not sure who the manufacturer was.
