Removing dash pot

Removing dash pot
There are a few blown bulbs on my dash pot so certain sections on it are not illuminated at night. I have been trying to find a step by step guide on how to remove the dash pot but haven't had any luck so far...
Any ideas on how to remove it without making a mess??
Many thanks.

Must remove entire ski slope and center bay area :(
I recently just tried to fix lcd clock (unsuccessfully), but in doing so I had to take apart the entire center ski slope and center console bay. Once center bay is removed, from the back...you can unscrew and detach the climate control unit, the radio and the cluster with seat heaters, lock button and clock.
Here is a video that made it possible for me to gain access to these areas very easily.
I found it on this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...xj6-how-41661/
I actually have the same problem now, but I need to buy new pots. But as far as I was able to tell, in order to gain access to the pots, you have to take apart the unit itself to reveal them on the PCU.
To open the cluster with the clock after it has been removed from center bay, you must remove 6 screws in the back of the unit. After that, take notice of tiny tabs on top and bottom of unit, above where screws were removed. Carefully use a flat head or other thin, sturdy blade to slide into back of unit where tabs are, and gently pull back to release it from enclose. Do this in all areas where the tabs are located.
Once removed from enclose, take care not to damage ribbon cable connecting lcd clock, as it is pretty fragile and can be loosened from its connections fairly easily. (If you have a broken clock now would be a good time to fix)
I have not replaced any pots yet, but I'm pretty sure this is the only to access them. Hope that helps. Good luck!

That video drives me nuts. It's a sure fire way to break an $70 piece of plastic. Before you remove the chrome colored bezel slip a thin blade scraper between the bezel and the shift gate to disengage the tabs at all three points.
You can see in his video where he lost one of his locking tabs in the process. You must pop the clips from the inside.

1. While laying on your back in the drivers side footwell looking skyward, you'll notice two screws located beneath the binnacles to the left & right of the steering column which house the fog lights & cruise control switches. Remove all 4 screws & the covers they retain.
2. Using a flashlight (torch?) look up towards the leading edge of the left and right side of the pod housing the speedometer cluster (leading edge being nearest the rear of the vehicle.) and you'll notice a single screw on each side. Remove those.
3. Seated in the drivers seat with steering column in it's lowered position, grab thee forward edge of the pod housing the speedo cluster (forward edge being nearest the front of the car) and lift skywards. The forward edge is simply retained by 2 compression clamps and should not require much force to free.
4. Now the speedo instrument pod can be lifted upward.
There are 2 wire harness on the rear of the cluster which must be unlatched to allow full removal:
5.Remove the rear cover from the cluster (T-5 Torx if memory serves - the green screws)and replace individual bulbs as needed (I'd suggest just replacing all of them so you have even light intensity throughout.

Remember these old bulbs are very brittle and even if they don't break when you physically handle the cluster, they may very well do so on the next heating/cooling cycle. There's a gazillion of them (I have a picture if needed), but if you have a chance, replace all! Nothing worse than spending an afternoon on your back in the footwell doing this uncomfortable job, only to realize two day later, that you have to do it all over again.

That comment brings back a nasty memory!! I managed to break two of the three silver tags!! Bought a replacement with all tags intact of e-bay. You can see the marks made by a blade of some description that released the tangs before removal of the surround. Clearly someone else knew of the breaking tang syndrome!

You can still get them from Jag at 7 quid a pop Part no. JLM1928 | (Unillustrated Parts) parts from Jaguar Classic Parts UK
Or look on ebay, I saw a fews listings for 4 quid or so.
The part number is JLM1928
