Something odd is happening

A couple of days ago a couple of odd things began with my 96 XJ6. When I bought the car a few months ago, the only way to open the trunk was with the key. The button on the back and on the dash did not work. I rewired the back (near the trunk hinge) and everything began working fine. A few days ago, the trunk open light came on and won't go off and those two buttons are again not functioning. I thought perhaps the wiring came loose, but I can't see that it has.

In addition, something new is happening that I don't understand. When I lock the car with the keyfob, I get the familiar beep letting me know the car is locked. Then, a few seconds later, another beep of a different tone sounds. I have no idea why.

I don't know if these two things are related, but they began at exactly the same time. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Don't take mine as the final word on any of this, but......

I *think* there's a "trunk open" microswitch in the trunk latch itself. If it's not working the car will think the trunk is open......thus the light and the second beep from the alarm.

Others will chime in

Cheers

That is exactly what it is. My truck latch has fallen out and i get the same thing, trunk light on the dash and a second different beep when i lock the car.
