Starter motor click....Help!
My 1997 XJ3.2 has been on axel stands for 2 months now having the chassis welded, As a result the battery has gone dead and of course the car wont start, I have charged the battery and after fitting all I seem to get is a dull click from the starter, the strange thing is the rest of the car seems to be fully powered up, I have another battery on charge that I will fit in case it just deceiving me of needa minimum voltage to trigger the starter, I have tried tapping the starter in case its jammed but it still does this single click on the turn of the key ,does anyone have any advice or maybe a procedure I could follow? Would a fault code reader pick this up? I’m guessing a voltage test at the starter motor end would be a good start? Please any advice would be great!

Hi jaguar4321,
If the battery negative cable was not disconnected while the chassis was being welded, the battery and many of the car's electronic modules may have been at risk of damage from the high voltage or current of the welder.
I hope your next report will be that the new battery solves the problem!
Cheers,
Don
