Steering rack hose connection help!
Gents,
I have been rebuilding the front end of my '95 XJR6 with polybushes and due to body repairs and other commitments it has dragged on a bit. The problem I have now is that I have forgotten which of the ports on the steering rack is for the high pressure supply and which is for the return. Both the top and bottom ports appear to have the same thread and o-ring seat although the holes entering the body are different sizes. If anyone could have a quick look at theirs it would be much apreciated. Thanks, John |
Come on guys, bail me out!
You can see the conections from under the hood (at least on a right hand drive). Where the steering shaft joins on to the rack there are four ports in a valve body with screw fittings for four steel pipes on the rear face. At the bottom are two thin ones going to the rack but the upper two are larger, both with a steel pipe at the rack fitting which is joined to a rubber hose. The one with two 90 degree bends in the steel end is the high pressure feed from the pump. The one with one larger smooth radius bend is the return. My question - Does the pipe with two 90 degree bends go into the rack above or below the one with the smooth radius? Sorry to pester, but hoping to get my car finished this weekend after 5 month in bits. Thanks, John |

Thanks V126man! From that diagram it looks like the high pressure hose is on top. I guess they would draw it the correct way around. A big help, although if anyone can have a quick look to confirm that would be reassuring.
Cheers, John |
The hose on the top is rack to pump the hose underneath is rack to cooler.

Thanks Scarecrow - nearly back on the road now!

The rack to pump hose has fought with me before at the rack end, I'll never forget it.
