Steering wheel adjustment
1997 XJ6 4.0L
My father-in-law Jaguar, he doesn't have the owner's manual (Driver's handbook) The steering column moves up and down. But when the same switch is push front and back, I can hear the motor but no movement of the steering. Looked at the gas/brake pedals no movement there either. (hey I don't have the manual) The auto function works. The steering goes up. A previous thread I spoke about a problem with the driver seat, I suppose it would normally go back when the key is remove as well? Any hint, easy access. Thank you, Salo |
RE: Steering wheel adjustment
Greetings,
The pedals are not designed to move, the steering column reach motor is inadequately designed to do so. There is a drive cable which is rotated by the reach motor, and the cable is broken. Jaguar does not sell the cable separately, and if anyone knows of a source for new ones that are acceptable and available replacements, I'd love to know about it. I have to install used cables to make this repair. |

RE: Steering wheel adjustment
you can have the cable custom made at any speedometer repair shop
only problem is the steering "column" due to age and frequent usage is most likely the culprit it is most likely binding which caused the cable to break you can try and lubricate the steering column making sure you get all the movement surfaces and then install the new cable good luck |
Question my 1997 xj6 steering column has excess movement
My steering column has excess movement when parked and motor is shut off. I can push up and down and the column moves about a couple of inches or more. Is this a sign to replace the steering column. The car has 89,000 on it. I was hit in left front I had it repaired where they replaced my front wheel spindle, fender and bumper.
