Last week while driving I heard a noise under the hood and noticed in my rear view mirror a belt had come off. Before I could safely pull over, another noise and part fall out.
A quick gathering of all the parts, and a check under the hood revealed the s/c idler pulley likely seized and fell off wrecking the belt with it.
No problem driving the car this way, other than lack of power, until parts arrived. Now was my opportunity to get other needed parts while at it since it was cheaper to buy from UK than here in Canada, even with conversion shipping, and duty/taxes.
Anyone have torque specs for this pulley, or should I just wing it?
I reckon it is a good idea to observe the correct torque when tightening the idler bolt if for no other reason than to make future removal easier. The original bolt has a small head for the thread diameter. I could not undo mine and ruined the head trying, then had to grind the head off to remove it! A M8 capscrew works fine as a replacement.
I found my old brake shoe adjuster tool, the type with a square hole in it, could be used to adjust the tensioner.
To set the belt tension correctly I used my cell phone with a suitable app to measure the resonant frequency of the belt.
