Turn signal and lights on warning sounder
 

Can anyone confirm if the noise that accompanies the turn signal and the lights on warning when the ignition is off is produced by the body processor unit please ?
I have recently lost these and don't suspect the speaker as it started as an intermittent fault but now stopped completely.
I have also recently experienced a no start issue which seems to be resolved although I am not convinced that issue won't come back and wonder if the two could be linked.

The speaker in the steering column can go intermittent due to movement of the steering column, and could fail altogether. It is easy to test. Do that first.

The Body Processor Module must see a Check Engine signal from the instrument pack to enable engine cranking. With ignition on and before cranking, that Check Engine light should be ON. But we must be clear about either a no-CRANK, or crank ok but no-FIRE issue.

I'd bet that the speaker and the no-start issue are unrelated.

It was a no fire problem, just happened suddenly, I had parked the car after washing it and the following day it just wouldnt fire. not a moments trouble in nearly 2 years up to that point.
it would crank and almost fire but not catch, I put a booster on the battery to make sure it wasn't a low volt issue, changed the crank sensor for a spare.
There was a smell of fuel from the exhaust as you would expect so changed the plugs in case they were oiled up and I was going to do them anyway.
fuel at the rail but no facility to check the pressure.
what I eventually did was put a pipe clamp on the fuel return and cranked away until it started to fire, and just cranked until it ran.
Removed the clamp and it has been ok since.
so still not certain of what the issue was.

If you closed the fuel return line from the FPR and had success the FPR is failing to the low pressure , too much bypassing mode . Might be that the injectors are clogging and by giving it a pressure boost by clumping it compensated for the low flow injectors for light off . Fuel filter could be restricting and then agine by clamping the line you compensated for that

You can test the speaker with a 9 volt battery and hear it thump

Thanks for that, it won't hurt to clean the injectors anyway, can do the throttle body at the same time, and a spare FPR isn't a bad idea at all, it's behaving fine now again. don't you just love intermittent faults ? !!

My guess on your no start issue is Bore Wash (Google it).

If your "parking after washing" involved starting the engine from cold for a very short time, that would be the cause - a classic way to induce Bore Wash.

Also the symptoms you describe are fairly typical of the condition. It sometimes comes back to life with prolonged cranking although often a little bit of oil in the cylinders is required. I'd suggest the clamping of the fuel hose did not help.

Interesting, thanks, yes that is a definite possibility. This isn't something I have come across before but it does fit as you say, was going to change the oil tomorrow anyway so sounds like thats a good idea.

I would agree that it sounds like a cold start shut down problem, especially as the OP was smelling petrol at the exhaust pipes. Flooring the throttle is the normal remedy to shut off the injectors while cranking.

If it does it again that will be my first try.
