Upper shock mounts
 

I need to replace the upper shock mounts, again, on my 95 X300. The OE parts certainly don't last very long. Does anyone have any suggestions for a different source or different material that the OE mounts?

Ummmmm front or rear????????????

How long is "not too long". Lots of variables here, such as road condition, one side more that the other, driving habits, tyres used (some "pound" more than others), road conditions, etc.

I see guys here that "thump and pound" over the speed humps, and the crossover to their driveway without slowing down, and are forever replacing bushing of all sorts, and not only Jags.

If fronts, then maybe the shockers are seized/seizing and pounding the "you know what" out of the mounts and the car.

Rears, same, but not so easy to change.

Car driver very conservative. Shocks are not seized and work fine but can hear metal to metal contact in upper mount area. Material just to rigid and not resiliant enough. Common porblem both front and rear and known to be a common in US. Roads are excellent. OE expected life is about 50K to 60K before metal to metal contact is heard. I am looking for a material better than OE. Nothing wrong with car otherwise.

my mechanic just replaced mine with some rubber replacement bushings. not sure of the exact brand. the OEM foam ones are known to fall apart. my front left bushing had turned to dust. I could see the little pile of dust sitting on top of the frame under the bushing :P

Mmmm, OK, got that.

I would simply take the remains of the "best" one to whoever the best parts mob is over there and say you want 4 of these in rubber, or Poly.

The poly can squeak in some cases, even with the application of the special grease.

I am not aware of Jag parts suppliers offering anything other than the foam bushes, but I may be wrong for your market suppliers.

As an add on, I have heard some discussion of the lower bush failing with the use of "non foam" upper bushes, but I did take that with a "grain of salt". However, it is well documented that the lower bushes do pound out, and are NOT so easy to replace.

Thanks Grant. I guess I am going to go with the OE parts as I have been thinking that something more durable might change the great ride and like you said impact the lower mount which is still good.

I ordered mine from motor parts Limited $90 including shipping and handling.

They will have to be pressed into the old bushing mount; Which seems easy enough. Polyurethane and may ride a little stiffer than the original equipment.

Go to motorpartsltd.com and should be able to find them in their catalog.

Anybody have a good way to separate the bushings without using a hydraulic press? How do you do it with c-clamps? MotorParts kit says to use an 8mm bolt and push thru with a hydraulic press which I "ain't got!"
