Valve Cover torque spec

NOT VERY TIGHT.
There possibly is a setting somewhere, but honestly I have never bothered.
They are a "shanked" bolt, so NO matter how tight you do them you will not pull the cover down any tighter on the seals.
All you will achieve is a snapped thread in the head, and quite vulgar language sprouting from you.
I simply tighten them a tad over firm, or as the Americans say, "just snug them up". Common sense is the main thing here really.
Replacing the small seals under each bolt every few years keeps things at the proper "crush", and tension.

I agree.
To be honest....and I'm not trying cast aspersions on anyone in particular...I've always been a bit flummoxed at the unwillingness of DIY enthusiasts to purchase proper manuals for their cars. I've seen it a hundred times over the years.
In the case of Jags like our X300s the Heritage CD is only $30 or so....even less if you do business with an Ebay bootlegger (not that I'm recommending that!).
About the cost of one oil change.
Cheers

Perfect advice as usual.
I use the "three fingers pull" method :-). That is, whatever force can be exerted with three fingers on the wrench or rather handle.
On the old XK engine with their delicate litte cam cover studs I used a "two finger pull" :-)

I realize it's an old thread, but ran across this doing some cam-cover research and thought I'd add the answer according to Jaguar...not that there's anything at all wrong with the sage advice posted by Grand and Doug!
(values in the chart are given in N*m)
Edit: Disregard the posted pic, according to post #9 here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rk-plug-68358/
