This may fall under the "it happens so seldom, just don't worry about it" category... but on the other hand I don't want to miss out on an important precursor/warning sign. So I thought I'd ask.

Like most of you my XJR6 has an occasional slight miss at idle, and I mean slight & light shudder and occasional. After reading various threads this seems far from unusual. So that didn't bother me too much, although I wish it were always 100% smooth, but no older car I've had is honestly.

But twice now over the last three months on my 45 minute highway (70mph cruise) drive to work, the car has missed once "hard" and the check engine light briefly lit, but it then just picks right back up and the light goes out not to be seen again for another month or so. It has only happened twice, so far.

So, is this just one of those things.... or?

Not much else to offer or go on at this point. No codes.

Probably a coil on its way out. But, yeah, it's impossible to do much more than just guess when the symptom is so fleeting in duration and so infrequent in occurence. Maybe inspect coil connections and wiring for any visible flaw and hope you'll see something?

For years now my XJR will go totally crazy on cold start.....maybe once every 8-9 months or so. Buck, snort, rattle, cough, and generally run like crap for 30 seconds. Then, like flipping a switch, it'll smooth out ......and all's well for another 8-9 months. I haven't investigated the problem at all. Until the issue becomes more consistent I know there is very little chance of getting my hands on it.
