Question What do you call this locking "T" clip? Part number maybe?

Another quiz for the community

... seriously, I am missing a few of these screw "T" clips that hold a variety of panels secure in the engine compartment.

I have several of the "T" male portions, but am missing a few of the female receivers that clip into square holes.

So I am wondering what these are really called, and if someone may know the part # for the set, or both the male and female part if they aren't a set.

If you find a supplier that doesn't charge a fortune let me know. I've never seen a car with a full set.

Whew, they are available, but they are pricey.

The male part isn't toooo bad, a little over $1 each, but still expensive considering.

The female "nut" is really expensive, from $7 -$10 each depending.

Think I'll be scrounging some junk yards first

They break if you look at 'em wrong....which doubles the insult of the stupid-high price.

I got tired of it all so for the panels directly aft/above the headlights I dumped those chintzy fasteners and went with old fasioned J-nuts and sheet metal screws

Cheers

Well, funny thing.... while replacing the bushings for my radiator and condenser, and had the undertray off...... I was poking around various wiring, etc and what pops out and drops on my head but one of the female 'receiver' clips. It was super dirty, as it clearly had been caught up in there for some time after getting knocked out, but it was still good. So I clipped it back in and it was good to go!

So I saved $11 and now I'm just down one

Nice find! Just ordered two for the headlamp covers from the dealer. They were about $8.50 a piece after my parts guy worked on the prices a bit.

My undertray is long gone, it's yet another item on the list of things to be purchased.

Not willing to pay that much money for the 5 of 6 lost quarter-turn-nuts I thought about an alternative. The square hole measure 9x9mm (sorry, I am a metric guy). Searching around in the net I found this kind of nuts, in German called "Käfigmutter", leo.org translates them "cage nut" or "captive nut". In M4 the size is exactly 9x9mm.

Today I tried the nut on the left side, it fits perfectly. I just need a M4 black screw now with suitable washer and it is fine (for me):

For the picture I just took the original washer and a standard M4 screw.

Heh, now THAT's funny. I am an IT guy, specifically coming from a 'network' background and those cage/captive nuts are exactly what is used on equipment racks for servers, network gear, etc. I have BAGS of those things.

Never thought to give them a try, will now though!

Cheap white plastic license plate fastener fits perfect and is available at any auto parts store.

It's also funny you say that too, as I was at a big box hardware store the other day and was looking at those square nylon nuts as well and thought they might work if one found the right size.

My quick & easy solution to this matter was done by me some years back, using a couple of speednuts which slide over the panel & then have 2 black mushroom heads self tappers installed. Easy to remove & no more broken plastic clips. Pictures attached.

Thanks John, I recall seeing that elsewhere also!

Seems like we have several alternative solutions available to us
