Default Wiper Motor Re-assembly Woes Arm dips down before wiping.

Ok, I removed the wiper motor assembly to change the starter in my 1995 XJ6.

Starter changed, everything as it should be, no nasty bendix grinding noise = Great.

While reinstalling the wiper motor assembly, I ended up taking the internal linkage apart from the motor to ease installation.

Re-assembled and everything buttoned up. Reinstall wiper arm and test.

No good. The wiper blade now sits about 5 inches high on the windscreen. When turned on it dips down towards the cowl on the LH side before going the other way.

I thought I may be off 120 or 240 degrees with the 3 bolts, but the motor orientation is towards the LH side and downward, which google images show as well.

Is the orientation wrong or is there perhaps something I missed when re-assembly the whole thing?

Any insight or advice is appreciated.

No rain, so I took a 2 hour cruise, nice to have things quiet again.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Alan,

My $200 car does same thing. Motorcarman told me to take the cover off, lift out the internals, turn a notch or two and replace them. I had it inside a few months ago, and removed the 3-bolt cover, but couldn't budge any of the internals. Haven't had a chance to get back to Motorcarman and find out what I was missing. It still needs tires and a battery so wiper position is not yet near the top of the priority list...

Ok, so I have it down to a mis-alignment of the Crank Arm that splines to the Wiper Motor. I neglected to mark it in place or to snap a picture.

Anyone have a photo showing this crank arm at the "home" or "off" / "rest" position? Or perhaps an easy way of getting the timing right?

My Daimler 6 does the same thing, and it's my fault
The wipers were perfect, then one day I pulled in for gas. The wipers were on intermittent, I put the gas nozzle in to fill , then went to wash the windscreen. As I started pushing the washer brush across the windscreen, the wiper arm swung across into it (I had forgotten they were on)
Since then it sits up about 4-5 inches above the correct horizontal resting position, but has a normal arc.
It was initially sitting higher - about 10 inches up - but I forcably pushed it back down. This took some brute force, and I thought I might break something, so at 4-5" I stopped...
