X300, XJ6 intermittent no crank no start problem solved
This was a tough one to sort out. You turn the key, and nothing happens – not even clicking, usually when its warm. Wait a while and then it starts.
Its not the transmission interlock in my case. There is a starter relay in the front right of the engine compartment and this was clicking if you are next to it, and it tested out ok. So I figured it must be a bad starter solenoid coil, which I have never seen before (usually its the contacts).
So I replaced the starter, and a few months later it starts misbehaving again. The problem turned out to be the starter signal wire between the connector at the top rear of the engine, and the starter solenoid (part of the starter). There is a fusible link in there and I am guessing the crimp connection is intermittent. I made a new wire with a crimp ring lug that I just paralleled with the old and spliced it in at the top before the connector
Hope this info helps somebody.

No. I'm wrong. Discard the above post. (I cant figure out how to delete or edit my post).
I still have the infrequent, intermittent no start problem. I use a jumper from the starter to 12v (fuse box) to get it started in a fix.
I was looking at the wrong relay, the one in the right side fuse box is for "ignition on power enable".
The starter relay is in front of the air intake, closest to the radiator.
When it happens again I will do some testing to try to nail it down.

Oh well, it happens. Frustrating of course. Especially when you really believe it is solved. Correct about the starter relay, it is in the left front area closest to the radiator.
