XJ6 power steering 1996
Hi all,
I am new to jaguar . Just picked my first 96 XJ6 . Want to confirm if all XJ6 equipped with power steering , since feel heavy steering when parking. And how can I check if my jaguar equipped with power steering or not ? And what should I need to pay attention on my car .

Welcome Ron to the Forum.
When time permits please do an intro in the "New members area".
Also insert your location in the header as some markets get different stuff sometimes.
ALL X300 have power steer. It has an electronic transducer device on the side of thr pinion head that can give issues sometimes. Mainly too light a steering at speed.
My first porrt of call is stale fluid, or teh wrong spec fluid in it. The pump is direct drive off the jackshaft which is chain driven, so NO belts to break or slip as far as the steer goes.
Syringe out the container, and refill with FULL Synthetic Auto Trans fluid. Run it a few days, do it again, and so on, until the fluid coming out is the same (or close) to the same colour as what is going in.
This has revived many power steer systems for me over the years.

Ron,
Any ATF brand.
Down here we have Nulon, Castrol, Penrite, Mobil, etc etc.
They ALL make a Mineral version, which is also fine in that system, but they ALL also make a Full Sytnthetic Multi Vehicle ATF. I know Penrite and Nulon do have that, coz I use those brands. Your maket will certainly have something.
The power steer system is NOT fussy at all, as long as the fluid is kept FRESH, and CLEAN, it is happy.
I use the Synthetic as that is what I use in all my Jag transmissions. It just handles the heat better than the Mineral over the annual drain periods.
