xj6- where does the vent hose from the oil dipstick go to?
 

'96 XJ6- There's a rotted broken rubber hose connected to the oil dipstick tube. I want to replace it, but I can't find where its supposed to connect to on the other end. I assume it eventually connects to the air intake stream, similar to the old PCV (crankcase breather valve setups).

Anybody know where it connects to ? Thanks

I see it's a while since you signed up. Hopefully been trouble free since then.

I can't recall a rubber hose on the dipstick tube of my X300 other than the the Tube Sleeve (item 15) connecting it to the Oil Sump Location Tube (item 8):

At some point for the 1996 model year, the breather hose oil return, via the dipstick, was deleted. My earlier 96 has it, the later 96 doesn't! The hose goes from the dipstick tube up to a plastic connector attached to the crankcase breather hose. The larger hose to the intake elbow also connects to that plastic connector.

I believe the idea was to prevent so much oil from being sucked into the intake. I don't know why it went away. I can say that there is a lot of oil in the intake elbow of the later 96 that doesn't have the drain!

Of course the rubber hose will disintegrate after a few years, as it gets saturated. I used a length of 3/8" hose to replace it just last month.

Thanks Richard. That's it! I can see what's left of the hose on the underside of the black plastic container. I assume that's an oil/air separator. Thanks again.

Thanks Graham. I'll post info on the New Mewmber section. BTW, where did you find the parts list and diagram? I've got a factory manual on CD. Some areas are poorly covered or not at all. No info on crankcase venting for example. I'm always looking for a good shop manual.

That one is from JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue) but I did have to do some cut&paste to get all the relevant info compressed into the single image.

The extra hose is for a modification to the crankcase breather system to keep the throttle clean. The throttles were 'sticking' so a bunch of mods were tried.

The new dipstick tube had a welded branch for the 'drain tube' from the vapor separator.

I installed DOZENS of these 'kits'. They are NLA by now.

Thanks Bob. In fact my throttle sticks from time to time. And now is one of those times.

Bob beat me too it, all should have them. Regardless of yr, but it was not a recall it was a customer complaint issue service bulletin. If no one complains and it doesnt happen you dont get it. They dont last forever, that valve seperates and leaks and yes no longer avail. But you can always make and should your own oil catch can :)

Thank you Tech Wizards, I hadnt seen that bulletin before. Its great to get the real story. My "Bro" and I (and probably many others) will be making oil catchers soon.

My kit equipped vehicle had the egr upgrade done some years ago. It has the decal by the left hood hinge. Perhaps the kit went in then.
