$4800 fuel pump???!!!
I have been posting problems with me 2001 VDP for about a month. Suspected fuel pump. I decided to let the dealer remove the tank as I was having trouble removing the two lines at the back of the tank. Dealer now says lines were crimped and pump is bad. Might need to replace sending unit. Claims 12-18 hrs of work and $3500 in parts, minimum charge $4800.Dealer's initial estimated was $1300.
I have seen pumps on line for $250 and I cant believe a fuel line can,t be fixed or replaced at a sesnsible price. Is there something wrong with this picture? |
RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
Do not get it done there.
It is about a 3-4 hour job max....and that would be whether pump getting changed or entire tank. Go somewhere else. |
RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
those guys are totally hosing you .. like FJT says only 3-4 hours.. those guys are probably suffering with the lower lines .. takes only 2 min.. but if never done it before can take a while.. maybe they wanna lower the rear.. axle? lol well that only takes.. 15 min..anyway lol.. hopefully its not a jag dealer..

RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
Guys,
Thanks for the reply. Sad to say it is a Jag dealer and the only one within 50 miles. I could either pay their price or go back to Hawaii. I'll be sending them a post card. |
RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
If your car is in Wisconsin, I'll drive there and fix it in a parking lot for 1/3 of the price.

RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
I assume this offer is legitimate. We live about 2 hrs. north of Chicago. I havent really thought about what I want to do next except to get the car out of the dealer and look into filing a complaint with Jag USA.
If you are seriuos about this please let me know. Have you figured out how gas and possible lodging would effect your profit? Are you confident these "crimped" fuel lines can be fixed? I put the tank back in place and saw no sign of crimping but also saw no sign of the quick disconnects so we wont really know what the facts are until the tank is out. I have made a very successfull carrer in the repair business. I was planning to fix this myself but as a favor to my wife I handed off to the dealer aswe arevery busy. I guess that was a mistake. I will likley do this myself but your offer is tempting. Dave Dave |

RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
just had pump and sender done on my 04 xj8 under warranty.
but had to sign the papers for my jag dealer to bill jaguar. the total was $960 that they were going to bill jag. |
RE: $4800 fuel pump???!!!
little easier to do on a 04 xj.. just pop rear seat off.. and there the senders are.
