1998 XJR cruise
 

Hi all,
I was wondering how much work is involved in fitting cruise control to my 1998 xjr. Love the car but would love it even more with cruise!

Your car didn't come with cruise ?

Hence the question re retrofitting.

section 5 has information about the cruse systems, components and diagram. hopefully you have most of the wires already run in the harness and just need to add the with/cruse components.

Thanks mvirgil, that's a great document, will make a list of stuff needed and do some continuity checking, do you know if the cruise circuitry/programming is common to all ECMs or if I will need to get one from a cruise equipped XJR?

There's a 2001 xk8 being broken near where I live that has cruise control, would many of the components I need be the same on the xk?

I don't think the 2001 would work it has a aj27 and uses a completely different system. Your best bet would be a donor with a aj26 1998-1999 (early 2000?) here in the US. The best way to tell if the car has what your looking for is if there is a large black vacuum solenoid attached to the throttle body. Page 5.5 of the engine management manual has a good picture. I would assume XJR and XJ8 cruse systems would be the same for Aj26 equipped cars, but check part numbers to be sure.
