2000 XJ8 Trunk Lights
 

The trunk lights do not work. I changed the bulbs; but could not find a switch or fuse for it. Anyone know how to diagnose this? file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Setting...0xj%202000.htm

Wires that go throught the right boot (trunk) hinge. They get brittle, flex, and break. You need to take the plastic cover off and the tape and check those wires. Happens to all of them, unles you never open the trunk.

Thank you. I'll give it a try ~ 5 fuse boxes ~ what were they thinking? in.

Jim, That is what the problem was. One of those little wires was broken. It took me awhile to figure out the trunk light only goes out when the trunk lock is engage -- no mercury switch like the old days.

My driver's side door will not stay open. Does anyone have a fix for this? 2000 Jaguar XJ8. Also, the V8 in this car looks the same as the engine in a 2000 Lincoln Continental. Am I right?

My 2000 XJ8 driver's door doesn't stay open either. The metal "arm" is no longer attached inside the door. I'll look into it someday. Yes, the Jag V8 engine has been used in other cars, including the Lincoln, from what I've read. It was thought to be a Ford engine for a while, but it's pure Jaguar.

Thanks for the fix jimmy, although I was enjoying the "open and close the boot until the light works" game, it did get a bit old.

ive been following this thread since the lights in my recently acquired VDP werent working. i finally got around to looking at it today. replaced the bulbs first, the driver side light didnt have a bulb... i checked the voltage at the pass side light connection and got 12.5 volts. i popped off te plastic and checked the wiring all the way back to where it enters the split-loom by the trunk shock , this all seemed to be intact and in good shape. i sat there scratching my head a bit , checked the manual for the fuse location , but didnt check it since all the interior lights were working. when i went back to the rear of the car , the damn things were on !! i thried closing the trunk and openning it again , and they were off again. another few minutes and they turned on again, this time i tried closing / opening the trunk a few times and they seem to function as intended.... i dont know what is going on , but they are working for now. they will probably decide to konk out when im on the side of the road somewhere trying to pull out my spare!

For boot lights the real problem is the micro switch.
You test if you are 12V on the connector light if OK you change the swith

I'm having the same problem, checked the wires, they seem ok, so the trunk lights are still mistery for me, never know when they turn on, never did when I needed them :)

just went out to play with this again.. i took off the latch mechanism.. there are 3 torx screws under the plastic cover. when you pull out the mechanism , you will see the micro switch there. i kept working the plunger in the switch and then got some result from the lights. it worked for a while then after a few times of opennng and closing the trunk , the lights crapped out again. i will now hunt down a new microswitch somewhere and be don with it. you need a non-marring tool with a crowbar type claw end to pry out the trim fasteners...

Don't know if these are related. Is there a fuse that manages both? I would think the key should open the trunk even without power.

Is this correct that the trunk light stays on unless the lock is engaged ?! If so I have found my battery draw when parked, please advise.

When you close the lid the light should go out. If you leave the lid open it will stay on and then fade out after a predetermined time.
If you think your light is staying on and therefore causing the draw on your battery, put your phone in the trunk, on video and close the lid. Come back 10 minutes later and replay.
Before you do this, check the light does indeed go out with the lid open.

as far as the door not staying open,my 01 would let out a loud cracking noise when closing.took it apart and latch was broken and the door itself was cracked as well.its a bad spot to try to weld and grind flat,so I used large washers and reinstalled repaired [welded] latch.steve

Anyone have a diagram on how the trunk lights attach to the lid, I had one that came loose ,I fished it out but don't see how or where it would be held into place.

it's just a clips.

A bit more complicated:
There is a leather surround glued on the carpet, giving it a stiffer base to click the light unit in.
My leather surround was loose as well, just re-glued it.

Just be a bit careful re-installing, better first install the carpet without the side pins, then click the light units in while having a hand behind the carpet to give some back pressure to the leather.
